VLC 64-bit Portable??

#1 Post by Joe »

In the listing for VLC Media Player here [http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=599] it states "VLC Portable is a portable wrapper for VLC". I suppose that means it's a Portable Apps wrapper.

The Issue
If I click on the link to download the 64-bit version it directs me to http://www.portablefreeware.com/download.php?dd64=599. The only exe file in sight there wants to install VLC to my Program Files folder. However, if it is really portable, why does it want to fool around with my Program Files folder? Is the 64-bit version really portable?

Strangely enough, if I click on the download link for the 32-bit version I'm redirected to portableapps.com which in turn redirects me to sourceforge.net where I get a paf.exe file.

Maybe I'm stupid and missing something that is obvious but can someone explain which of the files I have do download in order to get the portable 64-bit version?

Hi, Joe. There seems to be no Portable Apps wrapper for 64 bits VLC (for info, see http://portableapps.com/node/31641).

As I'm uncertain about VLC's current native portability status (for either 32 or 64 bits versions), and I agree the current setting for the database entry is confusing, for the time being I have removed the 64 bits download link...
