I just got a win8 laptop (asus) .
Uninstalled all the stuff I'll never use .
And downloaded 'SIW 2011 (build 1029)' to keep track of beginStatus.

Unfortunately, SIW 2011 (build 1029) doesn't run on win8 .
Turns out the newer version is no longer available for free .

Is there a way around this ?
I tried all Compatibility options .

Else, can someone recommend something as good or almost as good ?

What's "beginStatus"? What exactly are you trying to keep track of?

Pay monies to make SIW work again. /joke

Some time in the future, I know I'll want to know what were the original drivers that came with the system("beginStatus"). Same idea with software, etc..

How exactly do you mean doesn't work.
I have SIW 2010 0311 Business (free from GiveAwayaDay and I've been on a Domain until recently, thus I've not updated) and AKAICT it runs fine and doesn't seem to have anything that doesn't work.
EDIT. . . it does show as windows 7 business under OS, I'll have to investigate further (please tell us what isn't working though?)

The free version will popup an error saying 'unsupported windows versions 6.2' and then automatically close. I also tried the PA.C version http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/siw_portable and it says only the SIW Pro supports windows 8 and then closes itself.
