Clipboard app usage tests
Clipboard app usage tests
Tested most of the clipboard apps available from TPFC to identify which were the most lightweight in terms of resource usage. Uploaded the results to the link below:

Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Puzzled here -- current ClipDiary free version is v3.9 (http://clipdiary.com/download.php)...
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
I tested what I already had installed and I didn't realize that a newer version was available. Installed newer version 3.9 and added it to the results.

I rechecked copyQ and it indeed creates 2 copyq.exe processes. Even deleted and reinstalled it and there was no change.
A reminder in case anyone isn't aware; the Excel table can be sorted as desired by selecting all the data cells including the app name and version columns and then using the sort command from the menu.

Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Might as well be complete while I'm at it. Added the installation size to results ver 5.

Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Standardized the testing methodology for the clipboard apps. Although the results didn't change significantly, this is a more consistent test. Previously, the clipboard apps were tested as already configured but many of them already contained some data. For this test all the clipboard apps were cleared and tested with the same data set.

Updated chart for clipboard apps usage tests
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
First, I can attest to the fact that Ditto goes up to 4 megs on Win7x86 after about an hour of casual use and text additions.TP109 wrote:Updated chart for clipboard apps usage tests
Second, I've started to brace myself for your tests, hoping that one of my favorite programs isn't [what I visualize as] a cart with no wheels
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
The tests are limited in that only the usage after launch and after the addition of a small amount of text is taken into account. So an app that starts out as lightweight may start to consume more resources over time, either by being active in the background or through use. It's possible too that apps using a lot of resources initially could either remain at a constant level or even go down with use or over time.webfork wrote:First, I can attest to the fact that Ditto goes up to 4 megs on Win7x86 after about an hour of casual use and text additions.
Your comment gives me an idea however for improving the tests. Determine usage after acquiring say 250kb and 1MB of data. That would at least show any change by adding data incrementally and/or by size of the data.
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Tried testing with 256k of random text and since not all of the apps could copy that amount of text out-of-the box, I abandoned using that tactic. Tried copying a jpg file of 1.09MB from the Irfanview window and found that some apps could do that and some couldn't. Some apps like Clipboard Help&Spell, couldn't copy from the IrfanView window, but could copy images from a browser. I went ahead and tested the apps to see which ones would copy the file from the Irfanview window. Most of them save images in bmp format. I just went ahead with the default settings and didn't try to change it. Here are the results sorted by RAM in-use:
And by total resource usage:

edit: 10-02-16. Updated charts because of an error in conditional formatting.
Standardized the spreadsheet and created two charts. No changes in the data, just making it easier to evaluate the results.

Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Good lord these are sharp and they keep getting sharper. If I wasn't so active here, I'd just start a website based on your posts.
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Thanks. Just sharing information about commonly used programs that I use myself. Once a process such as this is standardized, apps can be quickly and efficiently evaluated and compared, and it doesn't require a lot effort to maintain. Before, it was tedious and time-consuming even to find this type of information. I'm learning quite a bit from the process besides how these apps stack up to one another.
Re: Clipboard app usage tests
Tested RPClip v1.5, Ditto v03.21.134.0, ArsClip v5.21, RClipStep v6.07.008, and Copyq v3.0.1.
