Re: is there desktop portable chess game that let me play online?
Yes, there is "Arena Chess".
And "WinBoard".
Or you can try "LiChess", playing directly inside your web browser...
I regularly play a few others that are not portable : "Perfect Chess" from GUNNAR GAMES (released 1999),
"Chessmaster 10th Edition" from UbiSoft (2004) and "Bobby Fischer Chess" from BOOKUP (DOS program - 1994).
And "WinBoard".

do you think could still find it ?
does the multi player still work ?

Re: is there desktop portable chess game that let me play online?
Yes, "Arena Chess" is portable. You can put it on a USB key and run it almost anywhere (assuming the hardware is compatible and the OS is windows).
For "Chessmaster 10th Edition", i can't remember where i grabbed the ISO, but it's still there on a blog somewhere. I don't know if multiplayer game works since i don't use this feature.
Nonetheless, it's a very nice program with a lot of features...

i'm playing arena chess but is even stealth ?
by the way can not find the multiplayer
would love play in multiplayer with real player around the world ...
don't you like it?
Re: is there desktop portable chess game that let me play online?
Yes, as far as i know, it's stealth.
I've just read your first post again, and no, "Arena Chess" is definitely not playable online. Sorry.
It's more oriented toward players looking to improve their skills and analysing games.
If online play is what you're looking for, running a search like this will provide you with plenty of available options to do so.
e.g. Chess.com

Re: is there desktop portable chess game that let me play online?
ssuite software, personal office or stand alone chess is "network play only".
BUT for "online play", I suggest "WinBoard-Alien" v4.8, with the newer 500kb exe (they say, 459kb true size, UPX compressed)
IT SEEMS 100% SELF CONTAINED AND STEALTH (when offline) to its own DIR/INI, total size, 7195kb UPX compressed (1 language, all "extra games", docs etc)
It has chess, chinese checkers, go, checkers etc etc...
NOTE: online play will likely make system logs or w/e from accessing the net
Super good, looks decent, many players online, has chat, timers...its VERY "pro"
Get it here: http://www.open-aurec.com/wbforum/viewtopic.php?t=51528
offline, "Pawn 3" is (use wayback machine) is the "best byte4byte" @ 186kb UPX compressed (its a good engine, and not an "eye sore" to view)

use extractor rc4 > edit make ini/remove excess files...Download experimental WinBoard executable (500 kB), (with support for some non-Chesslike games, such as Checkers and Amazons, see here).
