Forum Search box ergonomics

#1 Post by __philippe »

@Andrew

Another (frivolous?) suggestion :

In the Forum Search box, any chance to eliminate the superfluous "Search..." string cluttering up the box,
and instead position the blinking cursor straight off to the box left-most position, ready for action ?

Would save lazy-me (and, no doubt, umpteen other forum fellows) from backspacing the "Search..." string every time...;-)

Thanks,

__philippe

It already works like that for me. Tested on latest version of Firefox.

Perhaps Andrew just added this? :)
is it stealth? ;)

@freakazoid

We are talking about the FORUM search box, right ? (as opposed to the main page DB search, which works just fine as it stands)

No changes on my side to the Forum search, I'm afraid:

  • WinXP Google Chrome v 49.0.2623.112 12-04-2016
  • Win7  Google Chrome v 56.0.2924.87  10-02-2017

Ahh! Sorry, you're correct.

Thought you were referring to the main search field and not the forums.
is it stealth? ;)

+1 I think "Search..." should be a placeholder instead of a Value to backspace.

@xor...attaboy !

You took the technically more accurate, terse descriptors right out of my mouth...;-)

I think I have made the required modification to the phpBB template.

Lemme know if I've messed anything up. :D

Thanks, finally! I will search something without the "Search..." prefix ... :lol:
