Yes to # 1, possibly with the option to select the items per page (5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 100...) placed right at the top of the page.

Actually it would be great if the quantity of visible items per page could be saved in the preferences of the User Control Panel.

Thanks for the great job you are doing

I'll vote for the first one, too.
The category solution proposed is very nice. I like the style separation too, though it might be better to have the same style for all categories
How about having simpler icons for the new/updated apps?
We could use the space where the info is displayed to show the screenshot , the comments, and not expand it. So that we'll be able to see that without leaving the main page
(something like this : http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/css%20pop%20ups/6.asp)
Possibly a few parts of the info, like the "writes settings to" & "licence" could be hidden, to simplify & clear the layout and to focus on the more important stuff

Thanks for the comments. I added some of the suggestions and ignored some but they may be present in the next version :)

And now something completely different :)
http://rolandtoth.hu/pic/pfc-facelift/p ... ift-03.png

- The dark header and footer may be surprising first but I like how it separates the different parts and it also adds a more serious look.
- colors were tweaked a bit to add more contrast
- added the "posts per page" feature (perhaps a better name is needed)
- added pagination links also to the top
- stars moved below the icon - not sure about this but cleans up the app's title a little
- app's title got colored - indicates that it is also a link + breaks the dullness a little

The logo looks a bit awful, that's because I have no source file and removing the background would take too much time :)

I like your last version, but with categories like you did here:

A new entry should be more noticeable ... make it a red flag

I like the dark theme, though the image of TPFC perhaps should be changed, unless Andrew has the original which hopefully has a transparent background :D

I like this new design  the darker style, stars on the left, categories,

Maybe new/update buttons could be aligned on the right, to make them much more visible..

App changes could be added as a "Changes" link next to Download link and shown in a box like screenshots when the link is clicked..

Lol, I was so fast that I made it before the request :)

Updates:
- return of the Blue: this color is stealen from the current site and makes the new one more PFC-ish. At least hoping so :)
- What's new moved to the top links - could have thought of this earlier :)
- reverting back to Main categories - subcategories: perhaps that's not better than the previous, just to show it
- new update & new signs: they are more visible if they are next to the app's name (they are almost centered on the page)

^Excellent work, tproli. 8)

But IMHO and for improved correctness, the update flag should read 'updated'...

Given that the new button is white with red background, maybe the updated button could be white with yellow or green background (I think current solution is too like the other blue links and elements of the page, while it may be a few more visible).

I think the light blue style doesn't fit very well with dark grey header and footer. We probably may choose between dark+light grey or dark+light blue.

What about remove the boxes next to the website title? Like the first proposal.

I changed my position. Additional info fields could be reorganized in this way:
Category (visible)
License (visible)
System requirements (visible)
Unicode support (visible)
Portability info (clickable to show next items)
Writes settings to (hidden)
How to extract (hidden)
Stealth (?) (hidden)

Here are some tag variants:
Image

I think I like the simple rounded ones with white texts the most. My concern is that "UPDATED" tags are almost on every post, they shouldn't be so strong.

I never got the boxes in the logo, is there any extra meaning? Boxes = moving house, meaning portable?

I also updated the latest version here:
http://rolandtoth.hu/pic/pfc-facelift/p ... ft-03a.png

I have no problem with the current dark/blue colors. Darker header would be too heavy, and grey instead of blue would make it too dusty.

Where do you think to add the "Portability info" link? I see there are many of you requesting such a feature but I don't know how to add it without breaking the current simplicity/usability.

Well I just want to say this quickly, using your example program there, I think the information should be like so:

QuickTextPaste V1.31
Suggested by Checker - Updated by Checker on 13 Jul 2012
52KB (uncompressed)
<Links>
Category: Productivity - Miscellaneous (19)
Synopsis: QuickTextPaste allows you to insert (paste) quickly pre-defined text in any applications via keyboard shortcut. It can also run commands and programs via keyboard shortcuts to save time and avoid spelling errors.

Stealth [?]: Yes
System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
===Click for more info===
(all this is hidden)
Writes settings to: Application folder
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch QuickTextPaste.exe.
License: Freeware

so the category and program description is all there, but the 'extra' program information is hidden,
imo, i think 'stealth' is an important bit of information, its normally the First thing i look at in a program,

also, i Like the boxes in the logo, but im not sure what they stand for,
could be that the programs are 'contained' in their own 'box' (IE: folder?) on computers? :P
idk, its fitting either way,

And, the new red/green coloring seems to blend into the page too much,
it doesnt really stand out, it seems, ...faded or something,

if i get time later, i'll look into more of the changes and other posts, ^-^;

Edit: I just noticed, but we should keep the 'size' listed in there too, i didnt see it in your last screenshot, and dont remember if it was in the others.

And I do like the primary category the application is in having bigger / bolder text over its secondary categories, i feel there needs to be some separation so people know which is which,

Missing "Size" is fixed.

No one reported that the menu is on the right side with no reason, now put back to the left :)

Link is still
http://rolandtoth.hu/pic/pfc-facelift/p ... ft-03a.png

I'm still not convinced that some infos should be hidden by default. What is unimportant to you may be important to others, so better to show everything. It's not a big deal to scroll a little more, or is it? But if the majority needs this feature I can include it.

Even if on the main list some detail would be hidden, on the app's own page all should be visible.

Nice design! :)

Regarding the header, I think dark headers often look great at first but bad in the long run. IMO, a light header would be better.
