[Launcher] TinySpell

#1 Post by joby_toss »

tinySpell (totally free - no adware/spyware/nagware/etc.)
- Checks spelling in any Windows application
- Checks spelling on-the-fly (alerts if the last typed word was misspelled)
- Checks spelling of text that is copied to the clipboard
- Allows you to specify applications for which tinySpell is disabled or enabled
- Optionally beeps on error (beep sound can be easily set to any wav file)
new in v1.7 : Optionally displays a spelling tip (see example)
- Opens replacements list with a simple mouse click or a hot-key
- Optionally copies the selected replacement word to the clipboard
- Optionally inserts the selected replacement word into the document
- Allows you to add words to the dictionary
- Easy Enable/Disable
- Uses little system resources

JauntePE launcher:

Code: Select all

Dictionary error

#2 Post by SlowLearner »

Hi joby_toss

I love this app as well - so thank you for creating the launcher.

However, I noticed a small problem...

When you add a word to the dictionary (right click icon, dictionary, type something and click add), it only works until you close Tinyspell.

The next time you start TinySpell - the words you have added are missing.

This does not happen with the installed version.

I hope you can sort this out - it would be great to have a portable version of TinySpell.

Thanks again

This does not happen to me.
Everything i add to the dictionary is there on the next start.

This is somehow easy to check: start the app from the launcher, add a word to the dictionary then exit. Open with a viewer (notepad, lister, universal viewer) the file "custom.dct" found at "tinySpell\Data\User\AppData\tinySpell". You can see the word you've added among some other random characters.

This is the folder structure i've got after starting the app with the launcher (notice i'm using a shortcut to start the launcher - it's just my habit):

If you are using also the installed version (i'm not) try to uninstall it - after you back up your registry and settings found at

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\tinySpell
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\tinySpell
and
"Documents and settings\username\Application Data\tinySpell"
I don't see how these 2 versions could interact but who knows...

Dictionary

#4 Post by SlowLearner »

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

My tree structure looks the same as yours, but is missing the following:
desktop.ini
tinyspell.exe.lnk

Although I doubt that they make any difference.

Each time I add a new word - I can see it in the "custom.dct"
However, the next time I open tinyspell - it resets this dictionary, and the word is not there anymore.

Maybe it is just my system - I certianly won't let that stop me from using it.

Thanks again

check the dictionary for ....

check the dictionary for ....

read only status

I know I set certain files in programs like Yod'm 3d

to read only status

once set this way no changes occur on a permanent basis

though the program may temporarily reflect the changes the file always reverts to the status from before the read only setting
also a folder can be set to read only and can affect all contents/subfolders

probably not your problem but worth a look

dictinary problems

#6 Post by SlowLearner »

Hi Donald

It is not set to read only - and also the file "custom.dct" changes, and stays changed even after I close tinyspell.

However, the next time I run tinyspell, "custom.dct" is back to being empty.

I am sure it is just my system - it often does unexplained things!!!

Thank you for trying though.
