Good job on the new site-I like the fact it fits in 800x600 screen.

To be honest I liked the old site better but I am not used to changes so have to live with them, the only thing I noticed is that on my pc(XP) the new design uses a lot of cpu(about 6%) compared to the old which was 0.

2. Opera login failure

Goes to a 404 page
Tested in IE6 and works surprisingly well! No crashes.

Tested in Opera 12.02 and I am able to login successfully. Try clearing your cache for both browsers?
IE9 crashes! To replicate, go to www.portablefreeware.com, change to compact view and the display entries number... IE crashes (and no, it's not a browser cache issue).

Opera 12.01 - click on "Login" on the Homepage, it should take you to http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... are.com%2F. Enter "Username" and "Password" and press enter. It briefly goes to http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... mode=login ("You have successfuly logged in" page) and almost immediately redirects to http://www.portablefreeware.com/home/an ... x.php?s=25 (404 - Not Found). Upon reloading that page, it goes to http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/index.php and not to the Homepage where I logged in from.

Testing using IE8 and it works. Tested in IE9 and it crashes. Odd!

Tested Opera 12.02 using your steps and it redirects to the homepage for me after logging in. Under "Preferences > Advanced > Network", see if you have "Enable automatic redirection" checked?
is it stealth? ;)

What kind of issue do you have?

Only link and hover states are considered, and in case of buttons the active.

That's odd, I will have a look. Unfortunately I'm still on XP so I could not test on IE9.

@tproli,

I could/should have been a little clearer; I'm not having issues with hyperlinks per se, but instead the 'visited' state/appearance.

E.G., Glancing over to the 'RECENT COMMENTS', 'RECENT FORUM POSTS' does not show which links I have already visited.
I always used this 'visited' appearance/color change; not only here, but in my day to day / daily web browsing.
Only link and hover states are considered
The 'visited' state should be considered and added (if I may be so bold); I don't think I visit many sites that do not.

Thanks again,

~Ruby

Nice to see the new design in production use. :)

You missed one vital part, browser? This would appear to be your browser's fault, not the site.

@tproli: I second that as a reasonable request. At times, I also find it annoying that the "visited" state of hyperlinks is masked out on various websites. I can understand why this is done for eg. menu links, but for textual links it is inconvenient. Could you please consider?

I need some time to update my virtualboxed win7 IE to v9 to check the IE9 issue. In fact not time but resources :)

Visited state: it was present in the early test site, then I asked about it in the forum if someone needs it and as no one needed, I removed. Would it be satisfactory if only the sidebar links would have visited state? Or do you think every link on the site?

I suggest that you switch to the compact view (link at the top).

Guys your website was a fabulous one of great relevance, but why this "got to fix something that aint broke mentality"
Well, the new design has been on a test site for weeks in order to get feedback before changing the production site.

@tproli,

Thanks for your consideration, I would say applying globally via CSS Styles would be better (and probably easier).

Some examples:
I visit the 'All' page looking for security apps, i.e. Encrypt/Decrypt, Malware detect, Password ..., Privacy..., etc...

This may take more than one browser session; I can revisit at a later time and see which (sub)category I last visited via the 'visited' state of the hyperlink.

Now, when on a specific category page, e.g. Encrypt/Decrypt, I can also tell which is the last app I viewed/tested by the 'visited' state of either the 'Website' and/or 'Download' links.

I really do find the 'visited' state of hyperlinks most useful/helpful in all my web browsing and strongly recommend a global application.

Thanks again,

~Ruby

I couldn't replicate the issue on Windows 7 x64 using the 32-bit version of IE 9. Though I wasn't logged in.
