Lupo, thank you so much for this wonderful little tool!
I'm using it often, saves a lot of time and work.

I have a question about creating patterns ---
in some file manager utilities, you can enter multiple file-types or text fragments in a single string.
For example, FreeCommander lets you "filter" multiple items, separated with semi-colon.

Is there any way to do this with DropIt patterns? If this feature already exists, what is the correct syntax to do that?

If it doesn't exist, consider this a feature request for your list.

Also, a note to users who use the Send-To feature... I use Convey to make portable registry-free custom Send-to targets, so I don't have to "install" DropIt to use Send-to.
Convey is a utility I got off the PortableApps.com forum several years ago, development stopped and the links posted there are dead now. (I think it was written in AutoHotKey, but may have been AutoIt.)
If anyone has interest, I can upload a copy to a file-hosting site.

thanks again, Lupo. Great work!

Actually is not supported. I could add it in one of the future releases, but given that the software works with patterns and not with file formats I think that the user can simply add more patterns (one per association he want) and associate the same folder to them. If you have a different idea, report it to me.

Hi Lupo,
my thought was that when I have multiple similar items, it would simplify things (for me, anyway) to have the OPTION to include them all in a single string.
I think it might make it simpler to edit and update existing entries when updating is needed for target folder names, both in the GUI, and if you edit the INI manually.

For example, if I want all my saved web-page & html files to go to a single folder, I could enter them as a multi-item string like this
*.htm;*.html;*.mht;*.mhtml
instead of having to make four separate entries.
When I have four patterns, if I must change the target folder, that means re-creating four entries, instead of one.

or word-processing ----
*.doc;*.odt;*.tmw;*.rtf
or images
*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.bmp;*.png;*.gif;*.tga;*.tif;*.tiff
Likewise for using text-strings from various file-names.
*guide*.*;*how-to*.*;*tutorial*.*

The separator would not have to be a semi-colon, I just see that used frequently in other tools.

Well, it's a suggestion, and it may not be worth your time to implement it.
Heaven knows, DropIt is already a wonderful gift from you. Thank you.

Replace this exe in a DropIt copy and test if it works fine: http://www.lupopensuite.com/files/DropIt.exe

It works great! and I love it.

One tiny strangeness that I haven't had on two previous releases, when I double-clicked the exe to open it, Windows (XP-Pro SP3) popped up message "Publisher not recognized. Run anyway?" I selected to not notify in future, and have had no more messages.
Maybe this new exe needs a digital signature to satisfy Windows.

Thank you so much for making one of my most favorite tools even better.

I hope you enjoy your new angel wings, you get them for adding this feature.

:D

I think it is the common Windows message, that reappears because I have changed the author name and so it does not recognize it. I'll release an official minor update soon.

Actually this is the To Do list:
- fix Windows limitation of setting writing for non-admin accounts (in Installer version)
- add option to open software when receive items from external (ex. SendTo)
- add support for png images as target (I know some examples of it, but I need help to integrate it in DropIt)
- add support for transparency gradient (it needs the previous feature implementation)
- hide target image with double-click (actually it is in conflict with other software code)

I'm not a professional programmer, so I need help to develop these features. If someone is interested or has other feature requests, can write here.
