So a program that might be portable and might be useful to someone, but for reasons explained in the conclusion probably isn't worth the time. Hence its placement in the "chit-chat" thread.

So I saw an interesting program that boasts USB key security and standalone execution:
LaCie Private-Public

... but the softpedia screenshots look remarkably like TrueCrypt:

I figured out why on the FAQ page:
http://manuals.lacie.com/en/manuals/private-public/faq
Why can't I open LaCie Private-Public when TrueCrypt software is also installed?
A: Both types of software use the same engine. Uninstall TrueCrypt before installing LaCie Private-Public.
And (as you might expect) also requires admin rights, and therefore there's not much advantage over TC.

Conclusion: Might be good for folks who want a simplified version of TrueCrypt, but as they're not posting the source its not something I want to pursue. Of course if someone disagrees and wants to test / add this, I'd be happy to move it over to Submission.
