"Unwanted" Software

#1 Post by webfork »

Occasionally I run across a way of describing things that just make a lot more sense. That happened when Ghacks ran an article with the heading "Unwanted Software," which really resonated with me.

The study comes from Google, which is a little strange (as commenters repeatedly point out), but what I liked about this was the term. It's much better than adware, bundleware, crapware, spyware, etc. because it's what people got stuck with. Instead of arguing as I have done so often about being vigilant enough to catch the co-install checkbox or that there aren't some useful programs out there with simple ads, instead we're talking about something on a computer that *nobody* would want.

Unwanted Software is something that could get winked out of existence and no one would notice or care.
