I think I'm the last person on Earth to discover this... Anyway, I decided to share these instructions in case I ain't.

Read the Explorer UI very carefully to find the Organize menu. Once you find it, open it. Then open the Layout submenu.

There you can turn off the Details pane, the Navigation pane and the Preview pane (IIRC, the last one is disabled by default).

I can't believe I have used Windows 7 over an year without finding this...

I knew that but didn't know what IIRC meant, just DDG'd it and found out.

For the preview pane, there is also a button to the right, next to the help icon, below the search box.
I understand about the library pane, but why would you want to turn off the navigation pane???

Well, I go down in the hierarchy by single-clicking a folder and up with the breadcrumbs. I don't need the navigation pane for anything.

Keep in mind that it's a preference. Feel free to keep navigation pane enabled if you want. :)

I didn't mean to criticize your post, SYSTEM. My apologies..
It was only meant to be a question driven by pure curiosity.

As for my preference, i find especially useful the favorites list. So the navigation panel isn't going to be disabled anytime soon

Cheers :)
