He resigns ... now Opera has a bug that's driving me insane (first one in many years) ... is there a coincidence?

Perhaps it is not. Trying to follow the footsteps of Chrome it seems that the watchword for Firefox and Opera is: RERO!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Opera needs to copy Mozilla in dropping the one program to do everything approach and just make a stand alone browser. I used to love Opera around 6.5 but, in my opinion, it just started to get to complex from version 7 with options spread all over the place.

They will kill the goose that lays golden eggs.
To keep all my extensions working I'm obliged to wait a month before updating to a new version. I'm still using Firefox v5.01 and v7 is almost ready to release... And the same applies to Thunderbird.
Maybe it's time to give another chance to Opera...

Who stopped them updating before? When the numbers were not so rapidly increasing? I mean, what's the difference between jumping from 3.1.0 to 3.2.0 to 3.3.0 and jumping from 3.1.0 to 4.0.0 to 5.0.0? Aren't there still 3 releases? I tell you what that is! It's marketing bullshit! Yes, I'm not hiding behind my words! I'm sick and tired of doing that!

I disagree. I use Opera specifically because of its features. I will switch to something else (likely GreenBrowser) if they remove too many features.

I'd say it's Google and Apple who are to blame for all the marketing crap we get these days. Google are the ones who started the ridiculous versioning system Mozilla has now adopted. Apple showed the world that with good marketing you can sell the most basic of products as high end.

So with Opera are you saying you use the bit torrent client? Unite? Turbo?

I have never used Opera Unite.
I have used the BitTorrent client but no longer do so.
I use Turbo very rarely, probably once per year.

Let me also list some features I do use very frequently:

Opera Mail
IRC client
Opera Link
Extensions
Tab stacking

The last two were added in Opera 11 and it would already be hard to live without them.

I'm not referring to things such as tab stacking and extensions as they are part of every browser these days. I never did like the M2 mail client I always preferred the original version that was in Opera 6.5 but still think mail is really for a separate application or web app. As to the IRC client that is something that should either be a separate program or an extension as I doubt 99% of internet users even know what IRC is.

Still not sure what Google has against Opera though.

Panorama and tab stacking have the same target (hiding tabs which aren't currently needed), but having used both, I find tab stacking much better.

In Opera, I can simply drag a tab over another tab to create a tab stack or add it to an existing stack. I can also open any tab in any stack with a single click (first hover the stack, then click the thumbnail of the tab).

In Firefox, I need to switch to the "Panorama mode" in order to manage tab groups or open a tab in an inactive group. It is much slower and makes the whole feature much less useful.
