Search Engine Poor

#1 Post by hamasaki »

Hello,

Fantastic site and very useful. The one thing I`ve noticed is just how poor the search engine is? For example, if I search for "resoph" it finds nothing, even though ResophNotes is on the site. It seems it doesn`t search the title at all, which makes locating a specific entry quite difficult.

Just thought I would mention it.

H.

As a workaround, I use a site search via external search engine. As my signature file points out, I am a DuckDuckGo user, but occasionally the only way to find things via this site is a site search via Google, so I type this in:

Code: Select all

!g site:portablefreeware.com "search term"
To further refine the results, I type this in for things I know will be in the forums:

Code: Select all

!g site:portablefreeware.com/forums/ "search term"

Worked around for ResophNotes by adding the "resoph" keyword.

No problem. I think a good option would be to automatically add keywords from the title into the keyword tags on submission?

I don't see a problem with this.
If you don't know the name of the software you're looking for/know only a part of it, just add a "*" or two (at the beginning, too): "resoph*".
Maybe a hint/tooltip should be added, but the search works fine.

What I'd like to see, though, is a "search by title only" option, like you mentioned.

Yes, I think that would be an excellent idea.

And "auto add wildcards" option (by default).
