Re: Getting XMind Portable setup

Edraw Mind Map Free - JauntePE launcher - tested on XPx86 and Win7x64 - launcher not optimized, but working just fine Launcher works great -- thanks very much, Joby. I also got to test out this Mind Map program and I'm very pleased. The various templates and graphics options really fire the imagina...

Re: X-Mouse Button Control (XMBC)

This is a great program for mice with more than 3 buttons. I'm very impressed. However, I was unable to extract version 2.5 according to either the instructions provided or those in comments. Here's what did work (tested on my XP SP3 machine): Proposed new extract instructions: Download and unzip th...

Re: Kdiff3 graphical text difference analyzer

Initial testing makes this program look like a strong alternative to the also-excellent WinMerge.

X-KDiff3 0.9.97 [rev3] http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.1246

I deal with a LOT of document change work so although this is text-only, I might find a way to use it.

Tested this out today on a WinXP SP3 machine - I'm just getting a blank terminal window with a blinking cursor. Anyone else getting this?

That's unfortunate -- thanks tho

Re: Portables only on removables drives

Here is a list with a few apps that are portable when running from a removable drive, but store settings in the user %APPDATA% and/or in the registry when running from local disks. Would a workaround be to use a program like vSubst http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1503 to create a virtu...

Re: Hornil StylePix - New Free Image and Photo Editor

i think i like this more than gimp :D lol Yeah I just tested this out today and it's very, very good. GIMP still has some aspects I don't think it can replace, but I'm definitely adding this to my collection. jauntepe takes care of the extra problems, if it makes you feel better :D Can you post the...

Apart from protocol support, Links looks very much superior to Lynx. Thanks for the breakdown.

X-LibreOffice 3.6.0 up. Tested out yesterday ... I really like the language selection process at the beginning (can pick one or multiple with simple checkboxes), but the two pop-up messages from the taskbar advertising WinPenPack was one too many. The program jumped into the Impress presentation ap...

Re: Windows 8 Latest News

I tried out the preview release and HATED it! Shafting the Metro start screen down users's throats is an incredibly stupid move that will almost certainly backfire on them... I've read a few articles that indicated the push toward mobile is likely to be a stumbling, clumsy move, but it's too import...

Re: How a Wired editor was hacked

Wow! That's quite a pickle Mat Honan got himself into. All in all it took, what? 15 minutes? I'm mighty glad I don't depend on cloud services (or Apple, for that reason). It's a huge advertisement for what we do here: not relying on Internet resources for [most] programs, self-contained, very easy ...

Re: MyShelf Desktop Portable

Crossplatform and really ready for touchscreen interfaces, which is pretty unique in the software I test. This could be something really remarkable in bridging computers and handheld devices. I really wanted to make this program work with something I was trying to do, but I had to go back to plain o...

So far it works well. Features vs other similar tools (there's a comparison up on the site)...
