List of Portable programs that need INI file
Dear friends. The list below is a list of portable programs. I am indicating by the ..................... <<<INI>>> label that the program listed, at run time, is writting an INI file. If you want to use the program in different conditions (in another computer, for instance), this INI file could lea...

Different purpose
Simon: Some days ago I was interested in the same subject, but for different purpose. Since I am preparing a sort of 'distribution' with my portable software, from time to time I need to 'clean' the settings that the program writes when used for trials, in order to keep the distribution as if it wer...

Re: 2nd "Yes" :D
Thank you, whoever you are :) http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/3255/3551cz0.png I was the one of that 'Yes' vote. I think it is good idea to help to preserve the personal settings. My approach is always to separate data from the programs which generate the data, but it is not easy. Regards. *JT.

Fine tunning
After fine tunning and some extra tests I have to conclude that the given list is correct. Very interesting to know the result of some trials: - NVU was not running in Slax but it was running both, in DSL and in Ubuntu Studio. - 1by1 had the same behaviour: It was not running in Slax but it was runn...

It's not a hardware problem... it's a noted Windows XP problem. When XP has a network drive mapped to a certain drive letter and your flash drive is expecting to mount to that same drive letter, then XP gets confused and the flash drive gets lost in translation... OK. You are right. I experienced t...

Re: App to change usb drive letter without admin privileges?

No idea if you need privileges, but try 'VirtualDrives' and you will know soon http://www.appcontrols.com/software/virtualdrives.html It is already in the database: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?q=virtual+drives With this app you...

Portable Apps on Wine within Linux
Good morning. After long time I come back with this subject. But I have changed the method. Until now I was making trials on Slax Killbill Edition http://www.slax.org/ . Now I am making trials on an installed Linux "Ubuntu Studio" http://ubuntustudio.org/ , a distribution for multimedia ed...

Post-conclussion
After the trials I performed, and seeing that almost all of my favorite portable XP apps run in Vista, I decided to drop Vista again. The thinking below this decission is simple: If I do not need to make trials specifically for Vista, then what is the reason to run Vista at all? Now I know that all ...

I propose a simple solution.... Don't run Vista. It's a good point but I don't know enough about Vista to know how many apps will be compatible. I'm assuming Vista will have a certain level of backwards compatibility (as XP has compatibility mode for 95, although it doesn't always work!) ...

More specifically about PIM
I have not found untill now any freeware PIM program for PDAs. At least not any that combines calendar, contacts, to-dos, etc. with a parallel program for Windows. This would be a serious limitation for me in the case I needed massive use of my PDA, because according to my experience, the syncroniza...

... Mobile Win and WinCE ... They are not and you should not expect any Win Apps to run on either of these platforms. They require unique builds/compiles. OK. But perhaps you are interested or searching for some apps that are portable in Windows and have specific versions for PDA devices. This is a...

BlockNote-Free
See the link below: http://blocknote.net/ I post this because I do not see any trace of it in the database. I do not remember how I got it, but the given link is still actualized. Sorry if someone has presented it before. The application is an easy WYSIWYG HTML editor, and able to export HTML edited...

Firewall problems related to TiddlyWiki
Thanks, Local, for your comments. About the firewall question introduced by JohnW, I have to add a comment: If you are using the Windows firewall then you are in fact not using a firewall but a kind of 'semiconductor', because Windows firewall is blocking undesired incoming traffic, but is giving pe...
