Re: 7-Zip Theme Manager
Here's a modified version that supposedly does not require .NET anymore and updated compatibility with latest 7zip. Not tested. https://github.com/Wilenty/7-Zip-Theme-Manager-remake-of-version-2.1 Looks like Wilenty has created a new app to change the 7-Zip toolbar icons: https://github.com/Wilenty...

Re: ScreenToGif - screen recording and edition
I've updated the portable instructions for ScreenToGif. Creating an empty Settings.xaml file was not enough. You have to set at least one setting in the file so the file will update upon closing the app. In the instructions, I chose to change the [Options - Storage - Paths - Cache] option to the sam...

Re: Looking for a simple way to sync notes between devices
When I have to sync notes, I use Standard Notes . It's a good encrypted notes app that has clients for Windows, MacOS, Android and Linux. The free version should be sufficient for most users. However if you're looking for a notes widget that works from the homescreen, perhaps try Notesnook ? I've al...

Re: Server update artifact or deliberate design ?
I suspect I could modify the style template directly to make it switch sides, but I don't think it's a good idea because any custom changes will mean more troubles down the road when updates to the forum/style are made. I don't mind the forum post being displayed first, but for those that like the ...

Re: Iridium Browser - open source, chromium-based
I noticed that the Windows downloads are "unverified". That's not true. You can get the latest build for Windows here: https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-windows/releases/latest. It's from their main repository on GitHub and uses GitHub Actions, so the build is autom...

Re: Softmaker FreeOffice
Quoting here verbatim what user Nuno Silva commented in FO database entry : There is also (with the same architecure) Ashampoo Free Office : https://www.ashampoo.com/en-us/office-free a related, a bit older (2012), but rather compact, full-fledged compatible office suite. One might need to supply a...

Re: Iridium Browser - open source, chromium-based
While I've been promoting Ungoogled Chromium for ages now, that appears to have been a foolish suggestion. I went to actually download the program recently I noticed that the Windows downloads are "unverified". That's not true. You can get the latest build for Windows here: https://github...

Re: Portable Skype (AKA sPortable)
A new version of Skype is out (v8.90.0.407), so Skype was asking to update again on launch. This gave me an opportunity to try the Data\SkypeData\Skype-Setup.exe\ directory workaround that John mentioned (with an assist from Midas!). After I purged my Data\ folder and logged into Skype again, Skype ...

Re: Portable Skype (AKA sPortable)
Have you tried placing a dummy ' Skype-Setup.exe ' file there with read-only and system attributes set? Good thought, though it didn't work. But it gave the a similar idea. Create a directory called Skype-Setup.exe within Data\SkypeData. This prevents it from downloading it. I've added code ...

Re: MPad - powerful and efficient text editor
I gave MPad a quick try. Looks nice, but memory usage is a little bloated. Averaged close to 110MB with one tab open.
Compare that to AkelPad where I currently have 26 tabs open, and it only uses 6MB RAM.

Re: Portable Skype (AKA sPortable)
Going to post this here since I do not have an account over at portableapps.com. Hopefully @JohnTHaller sees it. sPortable 8.90.0.405 cannot be installed. I'm getting the following when running sPortable_8.90.0.405_online.paf.exe: The publisher pulled it. We reverted to the previous version. Thanks...

Re: Cross Platform File Sharing
I'm looking into this a bit as I want to share files across LAN only and not use internet data. This means sites like SnapDrop, ShareDrop, etc. will not make this list. Must be cross-platform across PCs and mobile devices. I came across a few options: * LanXchange - Old, but works very well. Require...
