Re: Alternatives to Google search
Nothing new, google's been censoring for ages for different purposes; political (China, Cuba), law compliance (there have been court orders to censor particular pieces in almost all countries), other (i.e. removing 'torrent' from autocomplete). Distributed services are the only way to avoid such iss...

Re: Notepad replacement
I used to use Notepad 2, but recently I switched to GEdit. It's fast and light yet fairly powerful, more than N2. (Off topic) Weren't you a Programmer's Notepad user? I still am. I use GEdit, PN and PSPad for different purposes. GEdit is the generic notepad. PN - for coding when I don't want IDE (t...

Re: Filter filetypes from compression
FreeArc. By default it tries to compress them with a faster compression method, but you can switch it to none as well as define the precise set of files for which such filter should apply.

Re: Alternatives to Google search
I don't see any ad. Just that one self-promotional "Sponsored Links:" above the results that says: "This could be your advertisement!". On the top right, I can now see "Sponsor Ad" with just some tiny text that doesn't look like an ad. So you do see the exact 2 ads tha...

Re: Alternatives to Google search
I looked closer and I appear to have 3 ads. One is top right, 1 just before the actual results and 1 blocked by AdBlock.
The top right is for their hosting site and the one before the results - for their ad services ^^.

Re: Alternatives to Google search
Not confirmed.
Tried the addon and I still get ads.
Can you post a full link to a sample search that doesn't come with ads when you search via addon, but does otherwise?

Re: Alternatives to Google search
Indeed very fast.
But unfortunately it does show ads here and unlike ddg it doesn't seem to allow to turn them off.

Re: FAQ: Is my version of Firefox illegal?
Where do FF trademarks apply? They say "US and other countries". If something is in a place where Mozilla doesn't have trademarks, it doesn't infringe on them. Still, in some locations where FF has them, making a modified distro may be legal. There is no single trademark law, most countrie...

Re: Compiled batch files as portabilizers
"Compiled" batches have no bug-free way to store relative paths. Therefore I recommend not to use it. Batches themselves are better. Looking into this: what about environment variables or temporary text files? Wow, an old thing. I don't know what do you mean by "environment variables...
