Re: Feature request: AVIF images

Yeah, AVIF is known to be superior to WebP in lossy compression. Both image formats are built around video codecs (VP8 for WebP, AV1 for AVIF). AV1 is a two generations newer codec than VP8 and easily outperforms it.

Re: Feature request: AVIF images

I made my own tests with the official command-line converters configured to use lossless compression: Image Original image WebP AVIF FileZilla 25k 19k 47k Pixia 222k 752k 830k In the FileZilla image, lossless AVIF amazingly loses even to PNG. WebP meanwhile needs less space than in lossy mode, beati...

Re: Feature request: AVIF images

For screenshots WebP is a better format than AVIF. You want screenshots to be lossless (they compress well, unlike photographs). Both WebP and AVIF have lossless modes, and WebP achieves smaller file size in lossless mode: https://siipo.la/blog/whats-the-best-lossless-image-format-comparing-png-webp...

Re: 9 [MakeMKV]

Thanks a lot, it worked. I didn't know that in ffmpeg I can even change the video resolution. I read a little documentation on the library. A very cool feature. ffmpeg-i source video.mp4-scale vf=640:480 source video.mp4 I also googled a bit, and there is an option to convert via third-party softwa...

Fair enough.. I couldn't find a viable download myself. I have removed my votes for the entry . If webfork can do the same, or one of you could click on "Remove entry" and pile on some negative points, it should bring the total votes to below 10. I threw in my downvote. It's private now.

So it has finally come to this: Mozilla is now showing ads in the form of sponsored Firefox contextual suggestions when US users type in the URL address bar. Mozilla says the feature was introduced with Firefox 92 in September to fund development and optimization. @ www.bleepingcomputer.com /news/s...

Re: WildGem - Regex but without the confusion

High DPI is a real mess for legacy Windows app. Silverlight was supposed to be the solution, but we all know how that went.. WPF is a huge improvement for DPI handling, but still requires custom code in some cases (especially if you can't require the latest version): https://sourceforge.net/p/keppi...

Sounds promising. It's always a good idea to check reviews before buying, and filtering out fake reviews would definitely helps if it works.

Re: Nyrna - suspend applications

Process Hacker can also suspend processes, with "suspend" and "resume" options in the context menu.

Note that it's expected that a program freezes if you suspend it. Suspending blocks it from executing at all. Resuming should unfreeze it just fine though.

Heh, I didn't even realize Flashpoint and Kahvibreak were from the same authors. :) Probably not too surprising, the projects' goals are related.

Re: What OSS licenses are people actually using?

This site mostly looks at library repositories, and permissive licenses dominate there because an (L)GPL licensed library would be significantly harder to utilize in commercial software.

In end user software (i.e. regular programs), (L)GPL is more popular than in libraries.
