Re: Please change the NEW and UPDATED markers
In a post that hasn't been moved here from the "New designs for TPFC by tproli" thread, Midas suggested that the NEW tag should last for 3 months and the UPDATED for 1. Those durations sound about right so far as I am concerned too.

Re: New designs for TPFC by tproli
I agree. I'm not complaining about showing when something was updated, my complaint is about the pretty blue or green pointed rectangle that says UPDATED or NEW that stays next to a program's name for years.SYSTEM wrote:
IMO, it'd be useful if the time of the latest version update was visible.

Re: New designs for TPFC by tproli
I think there are 3 things here. 1. the NEW and UPDATED markers that appear next to the software name and version on the main software view. These appear to be unnecessary to me particularly if they don't expire. 2. tags for NEW and UPDATED in the database that can be used to assist searches. This w...

Re: New designs for TPFC by tproli
Here is my suggestion for improving the NEW/UPDATED tags. The way the flags currently work is not helpful, so delete both. There is already a side-panel listing updates so the UPDATE marker is not needed. Add a similar side-panel listing new software and the NEW marker will not be needed. Timeouts w...

Please change the NEW and UPDATED markers
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but there is one thing about the site that I find extremely annoying. The NEW and UPDATED markers on programs remain, even after several years, with no time limit. Consider the 4 programs in the bookmarks category. Two are flagged as NEW: they ...

Re: Specialized Word Processors
I don't think that I can help you there. Even if I had used something in the past that supported multiple text and note streams I probably wouldn't have noticed because that is a feature that I just don't need. For the sort of documents I work on I need to be able to handle mathematical equations an...

Re: Specialized Word Processors
I considered mentioning scribus too, but decided that it was more of a DTP tool than Lyx. But then again the borders between content editing and DTP are somewhat blurry, so perhaps I should have added it for completeness. What specific features of a specialized word processor do you need? If you giv...

Re: Specialized Word Processors
I just looked at the prices for Nota Bene - Ouch!
You could try Lyx (http://www.lyx.org/)
I haven't used it much, but I seem to remember that it comes with some templates for academic papers of various sorts

Re: Request: basic text editor
Treepad might be able to do what you are looking for. But it sounds like you are trying to do a bit more than simple task management so I'm wondering if something like PiggyDB might be of use. Although it doesn't seem to fit what you say you are looking for very well, it might fit in with what you ...
