Re: Looking for a reminder tool

Thank you all for your kind support :) Both JT and webfork mentioned Rainlendar and in fact that seems to be the favorite candidate at the moment... Pity that I do not manage to find a suitable skin resembling this nice and clear one: http://www.putlocker.com/file/7402F41887B02384 (screenshot taken ...

Looking for a reminder tool

I am looking for a simple utility that would show a reminder (at every logon/boot) for important dates and events such as birthdays, anniversaries, bill payments etc. The main features that I am after are (in order of importance): - Ability to handle recurring events - Popup note (possibly with soun...

Re: Shell extension to rename files after folder name

As I mentioned in my 1st post this was not meant for my computer but since this somewhat erratic behavior of DropIt ( wrt the files numbering ) was driving me nuts I ran some tests on my own computer and I can confirm that both DropIt versions (4.6 and 4.7) produced the same results and sometimes/ra...

Re: Shell extension to rename files after folder name

It is very strange, are you sure it happens? Would I insist on it (in 2 posts) if I weren't? As I said, it does happen only randomly but here you get some hard "evidence" (the .gif did not capture the context menu but the first file being numbered is right there). http...

Re: Shell extension to rename files after folder name

As described by tproli, you can use DropIt for this purpose. But yes, as you reported, the first file is not numbered. It is because DropIt works like Windows Explorer, so it adds the number only if needed to not overwrite another file (so if "Trip to Spain - 2001 September.jpg" exists, t...

Re: Shell extension to rename files after folder name

@ tproli Thanks a lot for your (detailed) tip  Not long ago I have used/tested DropIt but foolishly I did not realize that in this concrete case it could have represented the ideal solution. I also noticed that minor glitch (that the first file does not get numbered)... Probably this is a g...

Shell extension to rename files after folder name

For a senior person that I am helping with basic computer support I am looking for a shell extension that would achieve the following (without other bells and whistles that would only confuse him): 1. Right-click a folder (or multiple selected folders) 2. Click the option "Rename all files in t...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

OK, I have tested the (Everything) procedure suggested by joby_toss (thanks again JT!) but unfortunately, just as I feared, due to the huge amount of files, the system became unresponsive  Still with Everything's support I have also tried to do it the other way, so rather than excluding files, ...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

@ SYSTEM & JT: Thank you both for your quick response. @ SYSTEM: I did not imply/ask that you were to provide a batch file, but thanks for the extra clarification... Good luck for your sunset code-duel with guinness (watch out, he is known to be the fastest coder in the West!), lol. @ JT: I am g...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

Perfectly! :) Yours sounds like the simplest solution so far but I was just wondering about one aspect. If I am not wrong Everything relies on Windows Explorer's context menu, so how is that going to be more responsive than Windows Explorer* itself? Thanks  *(which turns almost dead when h...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

Is this a code off SYSTEM? Name the time and the place  Please rephrase. Hey SYSTEM :) I think that guinness just invited you to a duel, hehe. Thanks a lot for the Ruby script you wrote... Please tell me if I understood correctly, in the way you suggest the selected files (the ones with th...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

Hey JT, nice of you to join :D

So you mean:

1. Run Everything (monitoring only the letter of that USB HDD) and let it create a database
2. Set the exclusions filter to the few formats that I need
3. Run a search for *.*
4. Delete all what Everything finds

Did I understand you correctly?

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

Search on ss64.com for "ForFiles", you can create a pattern to delete certain filetypes. Did I understand now? It's possible with dir and the list idea, just think outside the box e.g. loop through the list and use del. I personally would have created an AutoIt/VBScript, maybe it would be...

Re: Extract multiple files from USB HDD

Sorry friends :) but I have the feeling that I am somehow being misunderstood here  I have 2+ million files on a USB HDD and I only need the few hundreds .doc, .pdf, .xls (and a couple of other formats)... I do not need to make a list of files nor I need to search for files... I only want t...
