Re: FileOptimizer
Does anyone have contact information for the author of this software? I clicked the "Contact Me" link on his page but it just give an error. And I don't see any links in the program or its help file. The problem I'm trying to convey to the author is that the "PETrim" program is f...

Re: PeStudio
Regarding PEStudio's crashes or non-working GUI (as rhapdog reported), I've found a solution - at least to my problem. I'm not entirely sure how this is related to PEStudio, as the DLL I talk about does not appear in PEStudio's loaded-modules list.. but anyway, here's the scoop: There is a registry ...

Re: calibre
I just posted about this elsewhere, but I figure it's good to document here as well. Calibre has an e-reader that can be used standalone (without going into the inventory program), as well as a command-line ebook converter, and other command-line utilities (check the Calibre subfolder). Using Calibr...

Re: EBook readers and Ebook Library (Document Library)
Calibre should probably be added to this list, both as an e-reader and ebook library. The ereader can be used without needing to go into the inventory program itself - just launch 'ebook-viewer' which can be found here: Calibre Portable\Calibre\ebook-viewer.exe The document types support is pretty v...

Re: SIV
This can probably be updated with the portable command line option that's visible on the latest updates: Added support for SIVDEF.ini which can be used to provide defaults for configuration parameters that are not already present in the registry. By default SIV will save these defaults to the regist...

Re: Code::Blocks Portable
That 'EDU-Portable' is pretty old. Code::Blocks is up to 12.11, and you can download the portable launcher individually - see http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 790#p60790

Re: How to handle stored folder paths?
victimofleisure, yes I meant 'app folder' by "%exepath%", sorry for the confusion. What you have looks fine, although I'd still argue relative paths from even "C:\Program Files\App" can be handled - you just need to check that the final path is writable. Also, you can use someth...

Re: How to handle stored folder paths?
victimofleisure, I'm aware of the Vista+ enforced guideline of saving settings outside of the program directory, however this shouldn't affect the way you view relative paths. Any relative paths saved as part of an application's settings or entered into configuration settings within the program shou...

Re: How to handle stored folder paths?
Relative paths should be considered relative to the main executable, not the current directory. To get the executable directory, you can use Windows' GetModuleFileName and then strip the executable name from the end of the path (do a reverse search for the '\' character and cut off the rest). There'...

Re: PeStudio
I'm having the same issues as Ascend4nt. Using the 6.89 version. Only difference is being that I have a link to "Lookup at VirusTotal", which does nothing when clicked. Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, SP1. I have Visual Studio 2012 installed, which installed MS C++ runtimes for x86 and x64 for...

Re: Windows GREP
That's a sweet little package! Unfortunately, Unicode doesn't appear to be a priority. Only the following 4 utilities are reported as being 'fixed' for unicode:BusyBox
- cal
- lsmod
- df
- dumpleases
See the TODO_unicode file, which appears to be unchanged in new versions as well.

Re: Windows GREP
Thanks guys for making me aware of another good program =) There's a portable version of grepWin at PortableApps.com , in case anyone hasn't seen it. Works pretty nicely - I just used it to get rid of all that extra data that Firefox tacks onto internet shortcuts. I wish there was an option to not i...

Re: Jumplist-Launcher
By the way, I happened to notice one other program that behaves similarly to this: Free Launch Bar http://www.freelaunchbar.com/ Free Launch Bar is the free replacement for the standard Quick Launch bar. All functions presented in Quick Launch are also in Free Launch Bar. However, the Free Launch Ba...

Google Music Players
So I have a collection on Google Music that I'd like to play from anywhere. But the problem is you need a browser with flash installed, or a standalone client that typically needs to be installed. Does anyone know of any program that can play google music portably? The players I've looked at: Google...

Re: Jumplist-Launcher
Have you noticed the updates? http://www.ali.dj/jumplist-launcher-v7-released/ ... Not sure what you mean? The last update on that webpage seems to be in 2009, and this thread was started in 2010.. however, I just checked, and I'm at v7.2. Btw, if you run it too, can you confirm the slow launch tim...
