Instantbird is not portable. According to their web site it stores its settings in the following locations based on OS being used-- Windows Vista: Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\instantbird Windows 2000, XP: Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\instantbird Mac OS X: ~/Library/Applica...

The purist vote

I'm a purist. The primary reason is because application portability is not rocket science. Either an application will run without leaving any traces on the host system or it doesn't...period. I'm asked sometimes, "Why be so adamant?" My answer to that is because achieving portability is fa...

OB1 [OffByOne] Browser

Already in the database, under Web Browsers. I would have suggested searching first, but again the search engine wouldn't have found it...even searching for "Off By One" which is the exact text that occurs in the listing doesn't yield any results.

Thanks. Apparently the "powers that be" don't feel it's a worthy enough suggestion to even respond with an acceptance or denial for it's submission however.

RegRapper

The application RegRapper that justin mentioned seems interesting. Has anyone had experience with this program, tested it with various applications, found any limitations?

stumpii,

I found out by emailing the author of UltraEdit (Ian Mead) and simply asked him how to make the application run without any registry dependancies.

Regarding it working with UEStudio, I do not know, I'm not familiar with that application.

UltraEdit32

Andrew, A quote from the web site's PSPad listing: "Synopsis: PSPad is a great text editor with syntax highlighting, hex editing, HTML tidying, built-in diff etc. To top it all, it writes its settings to local INI files. I was a great fan of UltraEdit all along, but I hate reconfiguring the set...

In addition to Andrew's example, think also of security, privacy and registry bloat. If you are familiar with a typical user's registry, you are aware of the vast amount of information (and often junk) that gets deposited there by applications. The majority of that information would be classified as...

IrfanView will. For multiple files use "File --> Batch Conversion/Rename... --> Set Advanced Options button". For single file editing use "Edit --> Create Custom Selection" and Crop.

Auto DLL downloader

Look for the "caldix" utility from the same author here--

http://www.kmonos.net/lib/index.en.html

It's a tiny executable that will auto-download all the different compression DLLs.
