Re: Music Collection

Why don't you contact the developer? He's very responsive and always fixed bugs I reported very quickly. Maybe he will consider feature requests as well.

Re: Vivaldi - Opera Browser Alternative

BTW: What are the advantages of our extracting instructions over the standalone installation that Vivaldi innately offers? I don't quite get that, since both ways don't make it stealth and seem to have the portability issue with extensions. In the meantime: Still waiting for Vivaldi to implement the...

Would be good to know what has been patched or modified.

Re: When to NOT make a portable version

Software for the dumbest assumable user: Since extracting an archive to a folder of one's choice and starting the program from there or manually creating desktop shortcuts and the like requires more computer skills than simply clicking an 'install now' button or using an app store. However, there a...

Re: Is Opera 12 standard portable or not ? (3)

AFAIK, more recent version of a very large amount of extensions no longer support Opera 12. From Opera 12's extension manager you will only find compatible extensions in their catalogue. You will see, there aren't as many as when you browse with Opera 40+, and many of them are quite old and haven't ...

Re: When to NOT make a portable version

Fear of piracy: Since portable software can usually be copied anywhere and application settings are often transparent. So developers might believe making software dependent on installation with loads of files containing license key information scattered all over registry, AppData and ProgramData ca...

Re: Ethics of game emulation

A complicated matter in my opinion. Labelling old and unmaintained software as abandonware is often a user-centered or archival approach, whereas the actual legal status of the software and/or its publisher is simply unclear: nullo actore nullus iudex. Who knows who might try to claim rights once th...

Re: Database bug

I saw the same mess but it's been OK again for several hours now.
Entries were displayed without any obvious logical order, clicking "latest entries" (or anything else) didn't work.

Re: Site goals?

My two cents: + more of the same + better software + more happiness + more low-threshold explanations to attract new users + we (sometimes) have developers around here - reduction of complexity, oversimplification, dumbing things down (beware!) ? exit Windows, switch to Cloud/Linux/Android (would be...

Re: Nik Collection (image processing plugins)

I haven't tested it, but at first sight Pall Kris Photo Effects looks like it offers the usual simple effects almost any photo app comes with. A portable Nik Collection would have been awesome, it looks far more powerful and professional.

Re: PatchCleaner (DotNET system files utility)

It says it cleans orphaned files but I'm still wondering whether a system cleaner like that is likely to cause any problems in the way some aggressive registry cleaners and so-called system optimizers do.

Re: ONLYOFFICE (free office suite)

The desktop version is not only free, it's even open source. In their German forums, a request for a portable Windows version has already been made in December 2016. The mod claimed he was going to inform the devs about the request. (It's seemingly impossible to search for "portable" and the like in...

NB: Please, enter your e-mail into the 'Name' field when registering the software.
Otherwise the key won't work.
Ah, that did the trick. Reading helps. Thanks.

I obtained an oMega license key via giveawayoftheday, but the (portable) app says it's incorrect. Anything I did wrong?

Re: Opera Presto source code leaked

Yeah, well. Not that I consider this leak inherently and morally evil. Hope that's clear. Still, according to the news mentioned in the first post, lawsuits were already filed. So I think the question what the actual use of the code will be is appropriate - regardless of what I or you or we consider...
