CHK Hash Tool: User Settings Lost after Version Change
CHK v3.85 Quick Update: @ encode Thanks for CHK — my favourite hashing tool & the only one I use on a regular basis, ever since chancing upon it in back in 2017. Would like to enquire about the following issue. OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR: Since v3.50 (29 Aug 2021) , upon every version change, CHK compl...

Re: <Weird unicode characters thread issue>
https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=83614#p83614 The "u=0" parameter in those links ensure that they do not count towards the stats. I even double-checked again to make sure there isn't a bug in the code. @SYSTEM -- Thanks for the info about TPFC's "u=0" para...

Re: Bright & Low-Contrast Color Schemes
My guess is that extremely bright and low-contrast color schemes are used because they feel less scary and more welcoming to casual users. Thanks for providing such an empathetic rationale. I think it might help me bear with bright & low-contrast GUI schemes more easily, at least on a psycholog...

Re: Date Reminder - New Larger Icons
There's anti-aliasing where there were sharp edges before. It would be fixable but not sure if the author is used to that type of thing. / Not that they shouldn't have AA or be resized using nearest neighbor but that it's clearly scaled without much consideration for clear pixel grid alignment. Wha...

Re: <Weird unicode characters thread issue>
At TPFC, "[markb /forums/ucp.php?mode=login" is a popular search. Really? I wouldn't have thought so. Such generic URLs can turn out to be a popular "search term" because other than text queries via the search box, it seems that TPFC's search engine is also capturing user clicks...

Re: Date Reminder - New Larger Icons
Doesn't look like they scaled the icons well. There's anti-aliasing where there were sharp edges before. It would be fixable but not sure if the author is used to that type of thing. I think the anti-aliasing is deliberate . If the developer were to enlarge the existing icons (note: non-Modern Flat...

Re: Tablacus Explorer - RAM Use
On my system Tablacus Explorer x64 with 36 installed add-ons uses about 83 MB of RAM while with the default 13 add-ons it uses about 61 MB of RAM. At the bottom are the average RAM use ranges for Tablacus Explorer v17.1.17 (released: 17 Jan 2017)'s TE64.exe process for 3 different scenarios, each t...

Re: Tablacus Explorer (not stealth ?)
Tablacus Explorer (TE)'s software listing at TPFC indicates that it is stealth. On my Win 7 x64 , extracting & running the basic TE package with default settings , no additional add-ons & no user interaction creates & leaves behind the following items upon every run & clean exit. TE ...

Re: Tablacus Explorer
I am a bit surprised that an add-on is needed for such a simple thing. I have enabled lots of add-ons and I have to compare the RAM usage with and without add-ons. I suppose Tablacus Explorer is designed based on a bare-bones, add-what-you-want concept. For instance, Its ZIP package (containing 32+...

By mistake I closed my browser just before publishing this post and I had to re-write it by memory from scratch, most likely I have forgotten some of the things I wrote initially. @smaragdus -- That's a comprehensive summary of file managers (thanks for all that info), & you have a good memory ...

Q-Dir preserves desktop sorting (Group by - Type, Sort by - Type) after restart but Tablacus Explorer doesn't This add-on Remember Folder View Settings v1.25 (22 Nov 2016) should preserve "Group/ Sort by" settings between run sessions & also for separate viewing panes (in case you hav...

Thanks Andrew !
