Re: Capture2Text
I found the answer. 3.9 is 100% Portable. After 4.x it went non-portable. ------ [Version 4.0 (4-2-2017)] - Complete re-implementation in QT/C++. - Added Translation feature (powered by Google Translate). - Added Re-Capture Last hotkey. - Added Text Line Capture hotkey. - Added Forward Text Line Cap...

Re: Capture2Text
Hi guys,
I love this program but I downloaded the latest version and I don't see it as portable.
It's saving the setting file in AppData. What am I doing wrong??
C:\Users\PortableUser\AppData\Roaming\Capture2Text\Capture2Text.ini

Re: PotPlayer
Argh. Was hoping it was just me.
I hate it when software leaves useless crap like that in the registry and no way to get rid of it.
Given how awesome PotPlayer is (tried VLC, MPC-HC, zoomplayer, all of them) I guess I have to live with it.

I can confirm the reg entry.
A damn shame as it's my favorite app of its kind. It does also save to cfg file in directory but I hate that it writes to registry

Re: Audacity - multi-track audio editor
I am seeing folder written to C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Audacity\Session Data despite created the "Portable settings" folder.
The folder is empty, but man it's annoying.
I think this started with the latest version? Can anyone confirm?

Re: PotPlayer
This is the best video player I have found yet, but can anyone help clarify something? I am running 32bit of PotPlayer and have PotPlayerMini.ini appropriately in the folder, but I am still seeing registry usage of some peculiar keys: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\...

Re: Rufus - USB Formatting Utility
I still don't see any new reg entries even after running the app, playing around with it, checking for updates, etc... The only registry setting that should be modified with the p version should be the Local Group policies, but if you already run Rufus, you probably won't see any change, as the set...

Re: Rufus - USB Formatting Utility
I'm sorry but writing the the registry does not equate being portable , so please understand that even the 'p' version also modifies the registry . As per the definition of a portable application, all the portable version of Rufus does is give you the ability to carry and preserve your settings whe...

Re: WinRAR
Holy jesus fucking christ...
I am a portable fanatic and been going nuts trying to find an alternative to WinRAR (I use RAR5 format instead of 7z because iphone Goodreader app only reads RAR5 and not 7Z).
...Only to find out WinRAR is able to be made completely portable.
THANK YOU GUYS!

Moderators.. someone.
Please add this to the "How to extract"
Please add this to the "How to extract"
The "p" in the rufus executable name makes it portable; otherwise, it writes to reg.
For example:
rufus-2.12p.exe is portable
rufus-2.12.exe is not.

No longer free! It's payware/license now.
Quick, keep the link for the free version in the site. New version is pay only.
Great app, but won't pay $ for such a specialized fx

Re: qBittorrent
I run a multitude of other PA.c apps that do not have this issue. Do you use 7-Zip Portable? It also has an option to register itself as the default program for many file types, and PortableApps.com Launcher doesn't do anything to prevent it either. If you associate a portable application with a fi...

Re: qBittorrent
Our database entry refers to the portable package provided by PA.c. You do not associate it with anything if portability is the main purpose (you might wanna try apps like Coffee, though). You say "The author is about the biggest asshole I have ever met in the development world." No need ...

Re: qBittorrent
For the love of all that's holy at Portable Freeware, REMOVE this app. It is NOT portable. When it associates with magnet files it spreads its crap all over the computer. Legions of users have begged the author to institute true portable mode, but he's demanding money. It's ironic. Portable & fr...
