Re: Increase in Bots/Spam Accounts
Okay, so there is already recaptcha in registration, yet bot-like posts get through. That means that those that get through, are done in a way where a human does the registration (though, perhaps partially automated), and then a bot takes over and does the posts. So, the bot automates most stuff, an...

Re: Increase in Bots/Spam Accounts
I'd propose this: - If it isn't the case yet: captcha on registration - If the first post contains an URL or mailaddress, then the user's account gets switched into readonly, and a moderator/admin must check the post and set the account to normal again. So, this would only trigger on the first post,...

Re: Do you defrag your registry?
A disk image basically is just a backup of the whole harddisk (or partition). Difference to backup via files is that it doesn't copy files - it doesn't even understand much about what a filesystem is - it just makes a raw data copy of a partition, so that you can later restore it. If the current ope...

Re: Total commander
http://ghisler.com/usbinst.htm The only catch is plugins and fileassociations. For *some* plugins, it may be necessary to manually edit the total commander ini file, and turn the absolute path of the plugin into a relative path. For fileassociations, one just needs to manually enter the relative pat...

Re: Do you defrag your registry?
In first sight, one would think that registry fragmentation would be a big performance killer, because perhaps no files are accessed as much as the registry. On closer sight, it on the contrary is however one of the filesets least affected by fragmentation because: 1. The fileset is constantly acces...

Re: Notepad2-mod
If you want all these additional features, why not just use Notepad++? Notepad2's strength was always its complete simplicity. Some people may be looking for something in-between the feature-creep that notepad++ is, and the minimalism of notepad2. Personally, i dont see how bookmark-support belongs...

Re: Total commander
I never really understood those virtualized versions of total commander. It has native support for storing settings in the app-dir, does not use the registry and even has special variables like %COMMANDER_PATH% and %COMMANDER_DRIVE% to create portable relative file associations. Why virtualize it?

Re: Free Commander
I really hate statements like yours! Are you the creator of Free Commander XE? If so, you need to be aware that your app is generating false positives in some AV software. You should take steps to ensure that your app isn't flagged as malware by contacting the AV companies that are erroneously dete...

Re: Feedback needed for new JauntePE 0.5.0 GUI
Just a quick note: Even though i'm familiar with thinapp, i would have no idea what "exercise application" means (now i know - i usually do this during capture already). I'd recommend a (hideable) permanent infopane at the bottom, that gives a short quick summary about what it is that one ...

Re: Feedback needed for new JauntePE 0.5.0 GUI
Agree with andrew. After analyzation, i'd prefer to *optionally* be able to adjust settings immediatelly after capture (but please don't overwhelm me with tiny screws - first, just give me the basics (virtualized directories, files, etc), and optionally led me dig into the full arsenal via advanced ...

Re: Why write non-portable software?
A solution to the malware problem - and also one that gives the user more immediate control over autostarts - is to just not do "automatic startup" but instead automatically ASK the user to start specific apps. When autostart would normally happen, show the user a dialog "Automaticall...

Re: Why write non-portable software?
Agreed, fileassociations and lookup of hot-pluggable dependencies is about the most problematic hurdle to making all apps purely portable. Difficult to fix, without a standard to mark stuff on a filesystem level, and an OS that understands this. So, doable? Yes. Practically possible right now? Nope,...

Re: Why write non-portable software?
Wrong. My argument is sound. How can the OS now what to load at start up without either having a list of files that it needs to start or for all the files it needs to start being stored in the same directory. Given we are talking portable apps that can be installed in ANY directory how would any pr...

And how would they do that unless they added themselves to a list somewhere? Please do not make technical arguments, when do lack basic understanding about said technology. FYI, a basic concept in programming, when an object should interact with another one, is that there are a few possibilities ho...

Re: Why write non-portable software?
I think carbonize takes too many premises for granted. If portable software were the norm, a lot of things on a windows system would work differently. Applications would not need to "register" themselves permanently into some startmenu - rather, they would be detected automatically at runt...
