Re: HOSTS file

I think I have noticed with Proxomitron that if Proxomitron doesn't block the url, but hosts blocks the url, that the browser retries 10 times. so put the url into adblock or some other blocker might prevent the browser retries, and think of hosts as backup blocker. but maybe the retries don't matte...

"WRT54G-TM"... but careful about the wrtU54g-TM
one version uses uncommon infineon chip, so no 3rd party firmware, except maybe this work http://wiki.scottn.us/wrtu54g-tm

Re: Atlantis Word Processor

tempted to try, but I have winword 2000, and 95 on cd. (good for an old Pentium 2 or maybe k6, but mine aren't that old) from http://www.abisource.com/wiki/DOCX, "This is the native file format for Word 2007 and later. Word 2000, 2002 and 2003 can be updated to read and write this format with a...

Re: Some AV protection, Avast free 2014, not cloud

Avast free 8(?) "2014" Avast free is not cloud. (if you disable some of that) You must review many settings. Active Protection sidetab: i disabled web shield, it seems to slow page loads. I already use Noscript and Proxomitron with strict allows. Appearance sidetab: status monitoring. i le...

Re: Official Firefox Portable?

Crazy fast? Pdf.js is written in JavaScript and is therefore much slower than fast native code readers such as Sumatra PDF. I have seen PDFs that pdf.js renders extremely slow. i usually download pdfs. but I've seen a few seconds delay for pdf.js. I recall thinking they were large pdfs, because mos...

Re: Default programs in Windows 7; progress in ease of use

... What did Microsoft implement in order to address that? Online settings synchronization , which requires a Windows Live ID. Oh, and because settings are stored online, Microsoft can use the trendy word "cloud". While reading about many backup/sync programs, I've been disappointed by th...

Re: New designs for TPFC by tproli

i like old style pages. So, I prefer whatever is most compact, or can readily be made compact with userstyles. (elements with mostly Id, and with few Class. no wacky floats, with large margins to compensate for fixed widths, etc) small improvement over current: in the comment page for an app, provid...

Re: Help request from Gizmo's Freeware

tsa is different than most other sites. easy 'anon' commenting. comments become lengthy multi-pages. reply indent and a forum. I still think they'd best just link to here (portablefreeware). maybe this site could provide permalinks to 1. the app page (already done, i think). 2. a date sort search of...
