Re: Deprecating rank for inactive users

As discussed, the new function is now active. We can now downvote an entry back into "private" status if there is enough support.

You can view the list of "demoted" entries here, with RSS feed. It is currently empty.

Re: TPFC Database

To reduce confusion, I have made a slight modification to stop displaying download links if they are blank.

Re: TPFC Database

Some of the links for the private entries are messed up. Function Generator Lite had download links pointing to CloseAll now but was to Wizfil or such. Several entries are listed for DuckDuckGo with the homepage and download links pointing to DuckDuckGO and the screenshots are for other programs. C...

Voiding malicious behavior, it sounds good to me. If possible, I suggest that entries downvoted below the threshold of public visibility be flagged to moderators, just to make sure. 8)
Duly noted.

Re: Deprecating rank for inactive users

Thanks for all your feedback. I agree that giving active users the ability to downvote seems to be a better solution than the one I originally suggested. It is like having the super admin user weigh in, but in this case, it is a collective decision made by active users. I am thinking of adding one a...

Deprecating rank for inactive users

I am throwing out this suggestion that might help with a problem: entries that have been upvoted by users who are no longer active i.e. they have not login to TPFC for awhile. Frequently, when webfork or someone else identifies an entry that should be taken private for whatever reason (eg. they have...

Re: Is the "testing portability" FAQ up to date?

Thanks! But looks like the anchor to "Why do you think apps should be portable?" is broken.
Arrgh! Thanks for spotting this. Fixed.

Awesome, thanks! About groping, will you consider switching between "What do you have against program installers?" and "What makes an application "stealth"?"?
My apologies for the late reply. I was tied up in a family trip for the past few days.

I have updated the FAQ as you suggested!

Re: Is the "testing portability" FAQ up to date?

OK, I have included a section called "What makes an application portable", which basically points to all the other resources we have on this topic.

I have also rearranged the FAQ to group like sections together.

Re: Is the "testing portability" FAQ up to date?

I have updated the FAQ somewhat. Changes are: - Provided a link to the forum topic that discusses how to check for portability, while retaining the original simplistic approach to testing for portability. - Removed section on why I would not include command line apps in the database. That's pretty m...

Re: Search overloaded?

I suspect the database server went rogue. It totally stopped accepting connections 2 day ago.

After restarting the db server, things seem to be back to normal now.

Re: Broken link

Fixed and pointing to the right forum topic now.

I used Internet Archive to find out which topic it originally linked to.

I think somewhere along the way, that topic got merged with another.
