Re: LPF (Long Path Finder)

LICEcap was an application I was looking for, so as a small contribution to TPFC I created this VBScript to do the following. Run licecap.exe, wait for it to close and then move the INI file from the %APPDATA% folder back to the location of where licecap.exe is located. Just save this file as LiceC...

Re: USB Flash drive lifespan + portable apps

Well as the OP is about lifespan... A little more 1 month and the Crucial 64GB Refurb SSD went belly up. It only had maybe 10-12 hours on it in the "reset" SMART info when I installed it. The great thing about it since I had just copied the "portable" programs/apps over from the the spinning rust an...

Re: Minetest: Free minecraft alternative

0.4.17.1 was released June 2018 and 0.5.00 Release Candidate 2 was recently announced, hopefully a new final will be up soon. 0.4.16 and now 0.4.17.1 have been far more stable than previous releases on my system. The backup for my 0.4.16 is 863MB and still plays quite well but does crash more often ...

Re: USB Flash drive lifespan + portable apps

I know some people that have gotten "fake" USB/SD etc. mostly through Ebay trying to get that killer deal. I always recommend name brands and more trustworthy sources such as NewEgg. I recently upgraded my system (Asus M5A97) to my first install on an SSD (Samsung 860 EVO 250GB) and while checking t...

Re: CD/DVD Burner that consistently works

I've used ImgBurn, InfraRecorder and CDRFE over the years and had mostly good luck with all, especially ImgBurn and CDRFE. I have noticed that some burners and media have issues (even if supported) but never could be sure of the cause, however I have noticed that when I get larger cakes/packages of ...

Re: WuMgr (Update Manager for Windows)

Interesting. 8) I have been using Dism++ to solve (recurring) update problems in my Windows 7 SP1 x64 daily driver but, besides the Chinese opacity of some features and documentation, it doesn't look half as flexible and powerful as WuMgr is promising to be. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure. I...

Re: TPFC Awards or Top 10 Apps

@ webfork -> That would be the "Best New" links/threads that you posted previously I believe. I suggest this site quite often when discussing "portable" apps/programs. Many of those people are not tech savvy at all and some (most) will probably not go beyond the front page and may be lost in a forum...

TPFC Awards or Top 10 Apps

Getting a bit nostalgic and went looking at some of the older programs I've used over the years. Some like IrfanView I started out using from a floppy in 1998-99 to convert BMPs to JPGs from many friends/family members scanned images or early digital cameras that didn't support many file formats. Th...

Re: Favorite help file or site?

I've collected quite a few GB of guides/manuals over the years and many like you say are not always clear and concise. I've found that a lot of the guides from -> https://www.makeuseof.com/ have been very easy to follow and the site has long been one of my favorites for such.

VT is giving it a 14/61, which I'll admit is high:

It's only showing an 11/61 now so I'd guess false positives.

Re: PDF Multitool (specialized conversion utility)

Strange but I cannot uniextract this Setup.exe (got by Giveaway of the day). Can somebody put already extracted files here? "Giveawayoftheday" wraps the offered setup files in their own setup file. In the past when you ran the installation, you could go to the temp folder while the setup program wa...
