Re: Stop PEStudio Updates

Yeah, let's be realistic, please. And that means no more damaging, untrue accusations. I said last time, if you want to make such accusations please take them to PM. I say this time, if you want to make such accusations do it elsewhere. No problem, happy to oblige. The supply of rose colored glasse...

Re: Stop PEStudio Updates

I would never tell a developer how often to release their software. An active project like Chromium has several builds every day but they understand that each of those builds do not constitute a release. The idea that these developers are doing this site a favor by posting their programs here is lud...

Re: Stop PEStudio Updates

PEStudio is abuse bordering on spam. If someone needs help writing their app they can do it in the forum.

Re: Cloud Sync

Dropbox, spideroak, live mesh, ubuntu one, etc. all offer free synchronized storage, accent on the word synchronized. It's usually 2 gb or so which holds a bunch of documents. An ftp client misses the point entirely.

Cloud Sync

The recent entry on a JPE launcher for dropbox reminded me that a portable app to keep files synchronized with cloud copies is a gap in the portable arsenal. A gap in more need of filling as the cloud revolution progresses. I want an app that is free with free storage, fully portable, easy to set up...

Re: Regshot Static

I think I totally missed the point here but I see the light correctly now, I hope. I was thinking that the dynamic / static thing had to to with the function of regshot but it's really just whether the programmer included library files when regshot was complied or left them out to be found in the OS...

Re: Regshot Static

So it seems that, to be effective, one must have both the dynamic and static versions.

Regshot Static

I have searched so I think this not in the forum yet but I might have missed it. Does anyone know the difference (other than size) between the regular and static releases of RegShot at regshot.ru? They look and act the same.

Re: Too many updates

Another great comprehensive post computerfreaker. I am not saying I have the answers but I think there are some very sharp minds around here and I hope a discussion will bring new ideas to the fore. I do have one direct suggestion. I think an app should get an initial listing with all the details in...

Re: Too many updates

Point taken, mostly, and as I mentioned I think Kidsafe is a great app. That said, I don't think it dilutes the larger point. I have been unhappy for some time with the way some apps use your main listing for undue exposure or as a place to develop their program and I feel that development should ha...

Re: Too many updates

Computerfreaker, I appreciate your comprehensive and thoughtful post. I have not said it directly but I think you have produced an excellent program and it goes after a difficult problem that has not really been addressed elsewhere. I have only taken exception with how it was brought into the world....

Re: Too many updates

Just a bit more.

I know that some of these things are being done here now but not as discrete elements. There are comments available and a popularity score but both are captive in the app listing.

Re: Too many updates

Lots of good input. Distrowatch may have nearly as many Linux/BSD/Solaris distros as you have apps. They are constantly updating just here and they all want to be at the top. There are a few things about his operation that may help. First, an update is accepted only if it is openly published on the ...

Re: Too many updates

I agree with what the Latest should contain. The problem is that is is also the default page and because of the very useful information that is presented with each app listing there is not room for more than a handful of apps on that page. That means that someone who publishes constant updates can d...

Re: Too many updates

I think there is a lot to learn from the way Distrowatch approaches the problem. While you or I find rss etc. no problem, the general public won't do those things. As portable comes to also mean platform agnostic and the movement meshes with cloud computing it will take over the world. This is the o...
