Re: Using Compiled Batch files to 'portabilize' command-line
You can also compile .vbs files to .exe - much easier and more powerful scripting. The problem with .bat to .exe compilers is that they just extract the .bat file to your %temp% and then run the .bat from there. With true .vbs to .exe compilers such as ScryptCryptor (commercial software) - they run...

Re: I have completed my studies
Thanks for the replies. :) I am now a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology. 8-) Congrats. You going on to do your Masters? No, I don't plan to. Congrats! Might as well get some real-world experience instead of that Masters! :D I think that SYSTEM has plenty of real world experience. :)...

Well, hardly surprising. And I would find it hard to believe that the same isn't happening in the US. Actually, now we have a proof that MS indeed spies on Skype users worldwide: http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Skype-with-care-Microsoft-is-reading-everything-you-write-1862870.html http:/...

Re: Don't use Flattr for donations
Well, as I see the conversation: They created a new tool. You use the tool in a way that's different from what they meant. It doesn't work great. You complain because you know that they could alter the tool to work well both in your workflow and in theirs at the same time. They fail to notice it and...

Re: Phototheca devs: USB sticks too slow
I'm using portable applications on my FIXED hard drive 99.9% of the time so the logic behind "USB sticks too slow" should not be an excuse. Ditto :!: I used to do the same when I've been a Windows user. And, really, modern USB drives can be much faster than spinning rust. The developer do...

Re: Alternatives to Google search
I find it very hard to stay away from Google. And it saddens me... There are results I need from searches, that only Google gives me. Too bad it gives me a lot of other crap at the same time. Ditto ... I much prefer DDG for tracking down simple stuff or official sites, but beyond that Google seems ...

Re: When giants collide
Yeah, design of email is broken from the security perspective. Reliance on a single party (that you can pick) + cumbersome encryption. That's why I prefer to avoid it and use f.e. I2P Bote. Frankly, most of internet is broken in a similar way...there's a need for a ground-up redesign. At least I nee...

At last some AV comparison that lists false positives. Though the results seem suspiciously low (In my personal experience the average was ~ 1/100, not 1/150000), which suggests that either my data is skewed (likely) or theirs (may be, they don't seem to publish any info about the test set) or both.

Re: Firefox x64 for Windows killed(?)
I'm surprised that they quote people who have troubles with too many tabs driving them to the memory limit. Until a month ago I've been using FF3 on a machine with 1 GB RAM. I am well exceeding 100 tabs from time to time and FF has never been near to exceeding my amount of RAM. Firefox has gotten m...
