A seemingly simple screengrabber utility, with just the right amount of advanced options. The settings dialog says it all, really.
Features include 98, 2K, and XP support, 6 kinds of grabbing (control, client area, window, desktop, virtual screen, and rectangular area), save to clipboard, save to file (multiple image file types supported), multi-monitor awareness, thumbnailing, watermarking, image tagging, image uploading, and a small resources footprint.
And for your skin shots there's automatic background filling, either with the color of your choice or with "transparent pixels":
It'll even work (somewhat imperfectly at times) for skins alpha-blended to the desktop:
No registry entries are made with any version, so just delete the FGWndGrab main directory to uninstall.
Update 0.4.0:
- Added support for Windows 98.
- Added the ability to run with a task list icon.

- Added the ability to put a shortcut link to the app either in the user's own Startup folder or in the "Common" Startup folder.
- Added Print Screen as a possible hot key.
- Added the ability to define an arbitrarily positioned and sized rectangular area on the desktop from which to take a grab, specified via the "Rectangular Area" grab type.
- Added the ability to overwrite the grab image when the "# Digits" value is set to 0.
- Added the ability to select one of several well known color reduction methods to be used when grabbing to a gif file, including GDI+'s default dithered halftone palette, grayscale, optimized median cut, dithered optimized median cut, optimized octree, and use of a "standard" web safe palette.
- Added support for grab output to a TIFF file along with the ability to specify its compression method.
- Added the ability to specify that grabs of non-rectangular windows be "background filled" with a given color and to optionally treat that color as a transparent pixel indicator.
- Added the ability to specify image file meta-data: title, copyright, document name, description, and artist.

- Added the ability to upload grabbed files to an ftp server host.
- Moved the Help and About dialog boxes into the Settings UI.
Your computer needs the GDI+ runtime, which only comes pre-installed on XP, to make use of the file types, thumbnailing, watermarking, and image tagging features. There's a link in the Downloads section below.
Tested on 98 SE, XP Pro SP 1, and XP Home SP 2.
Update 0.3.0:
- Added grab file naming and # of digits numbering.
- Added .gif, .jpg, and .png as possible grab file types.
- Added ability to make a thumbnail file from the grab file.
- Added ability to watermark both the grab file as well as the thumbnail.
- Added a simple help dialog box to the systray icon menu.
- Added current thumbnail and watermark settings to the about box.
- Added a first-time-only popup of the help dialog box for users unfamiliar with systray-based apps.
- Modified the settings dialog box so that context-related help could be given without having to refer to the .ini.

Tested only on XP.
Update 0.2.0:
The app is now multiple monitor aware when using the Desktop setting. A screen grab will be made of the monitor containing the cursor.
A Virtual screen setting has been added that will take a screen grab of the entire set of screens all at once.
Since the app sits idle most of the time, a small update has been made for NT-based OSs to help reduce the memory footprint at the cost of a slight increase in execution time once the app becomes active.
An attempt has been made to try and make it compatible with 9x versions of Windows but testing again was only done with XP.
Original 0.1.0:
Defined as an alpha, some late effort was put in to polish it, yet could only test in XP. It doesn't work in 9x, but does in 2k and XP, and we found it running smoothly. Refer to the .ini for additional info.
