My mod is not completed yet as the majority of my time is spent writing my mod viewer (available from the stranded forums) but if you take the time to have a look at the mod viewer, you'll see why.

Again, many off the questions you guys have concerning gameplay are answered on the forums. You get the key for the locked crate when you progress in the adventure.

I know I keep banging on about the forums and I ain't even the creator,, but if it wasn't for the great community, I wouldn't have made my mod viewer.

I really like this game and have had it for a fair few years now. I've modded the game and even made a mod viewer for the game. It is well constructed with an internal scripting language for easy modification. It is fairly portable as it was wrote in the BlitzBasic programming language and only requires DirectX 7 or higher as this is a requirement of BlitzBasic.

A lot of the comments here are not about how portable or enjoyable the game is, but simply people not understanding how to play the game. This game has a nice website, but more importantly, a bustling forum where all these questions have been asked and answered a thousand times.

But just to help, here's some answers:
Loner, pressing the 'O' key does nothing. It does not mean obtain as you keep shouting, it does absolutely nothing.
In order to break the boxes on the shore as you start, get close to them and hold your left mouse button, continuously whacking the crates until they 'break' where they will slowly fall into the ground and disappear, leaving whatever was in the crate on the ground. But if the crate was in water, then whatever was left by the crate would be in the water.
As for getting items from trees, get close and hold your left mouse button to keep hitting the tree. You will notice that after some hits, you will get leaves, branches and other stuff. If you keep whacking the tree for long enough, it falls down and leaves a log behind.
Freboi, if you have something in hand (Like the grain marker, even if you have no grain), you have to press '0' (not the keypad '0' but the one on the number strip above the letters) to empty your hands.
Me, in order to build a hut, you must first unlock it in a 'building tree' fashion. In order to build a hut, you must build a shelter, a campfire, a storage and then the hut in that order.
Bodo, If you are poisoned, there's not a lot of options. The most common is to use a health potion that can be made by combining:
Strong Healing Herb + Stone + Water Source (This can be a bottle of water you're carrying or simply being close to fresh water, like looking at your well).
3 Healing Herbs + Stone + Water Source
5 Gold Herbs + Stone + Water Source

Dude if you read what they tell you you will have got that if you left click several times on the box or tree (this is using you hands in the game) it will destroy the box or tree and you can recieve the goods.

how do you build a hut wood and vine didnt seem to work..

Boxes don't actually give wood -- my mistake. Not unless you have a mod for the game -_-.

For the first few boxes floating ashore on the island, when you break them the items will drop beneath the surface of the water. You have to be below water level to pick them up, otherwise you will end up drinking the salt water.

The O button actually does nothing. You must use left click on destructable objects, for others such as berries, fruit on trees, you pick them up by using the E button.

Use your bare fists to attack trees and shrubs. You have a chance of receiving an item (leaf, vine, bark, or branches) everytime you attack it. If you manage to destroy the tree it will drop a log -- you can either pick it up (heavy!) or break it into branches.

Some boxes are empty, and others may contain goodies (cookies, bottles of water etc.).

I tried to break them up, and nothing. Nothing I tried worked...not the clicking on boxes, turtles, trees, wood, or plants...nothing. Tried to use the "O" for Obtain, and still nothing.

To get items from trees and vegetation, you have to attack it using the Left Mouse button. (using your hands at first, then when you get tools you use them to attack the appropriate plant).

Those boxes that you see washed ashore are simply for decoration. They serve no purpose, but you can break them up and retrieve wood from them.

I clicked on boxes washed ashore and nothing happened. I clicked on trees and plants with the letter "O" for obtain, and nothing happened. So, this is free, great graphics, but it wont work for me. Anyone else with this prog?
