File Joiner v2.2.2 Updated

Checker on 20 May 2013
  • 269KB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by Igor

File Joiner easily combines multiple files into one. Often files are separated into parts using a program like HJSplit (ending with .001, .002, .003, etc.) so they can be sent over email, newsgroup or other hosting service that limits file size.

Very easy handy fast useful program. I need it. Thank you.

Although it probably won't help with files split using HJSplit, for cutting up and reassemble files, I recommend the outstanding FreeCommander (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=291.

@Magibon: thanks for your input. Highlight and copy to the clipboard are on my todo list. I'll implement these features.

ESEDatabaseView v1.10 Updated

Checker on 14 May 2013
  • 112KB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by Checker

ESEDatabaseView reads and displays the data stored inside a database program used by a variety of Microsoft programs known as Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database (aka Jet Blue or a .edb file). It displays a list of all tables available in the opened database file, allows you to choose the desired table to view, and then when you choose a table, it displays all records found in the selected table.

The program also allows you to easily choose one or more records, and then export them into a variety of formats including CSV, HTML, and XML, or copy and then paste them into a spreadsheet program.

What's new?
  • Added 'Open Locked IE10 Database' option, which copies the locked database file of Internet Explorer 10 (WebCacheV01.dat or WebCacheV24.dat) into a temporary filename, and then opens the temporary filename in ESEDatabaseView. You can use this option to easily view the cache/history/cookies information stored by IE10.

In case (like me) you're left wondering what is this good for, here's a quote from the Wikipedia relevant article:

"ESE is notably a core of Microsoft Exchange Server and Active Directory. Its purpose is to allow applications to store and retrieve data via indexed and sequential access. Windows Mail and Desktop Search in the Windows Vista operating system also make use of ESE to store indexes and property information respectively."

QuickWayToFolders v1.2.12 Updated

Checker on 1 May 2013
  • 1023KB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by crownixx

QuickWayToFolders provides quick and easy access to a folder on your computer via a taskbar icon. The program window disappears when you click outside the window. Display modes include:

  • Desktop: Act like a mini-desktop, with small icons
  • Small Browser: very similar to Windows explorer in "details" view
  • Menu: Display folder content in a menu
  • Multiple Folders Menu: Display multiple folders content in a single menu (note that you must manually add them or nothing will appear when you click the icon)
In the "Menu" and "Multiple Folders Menu" settings, the program can act like a Program Launcher. Multiple instances of the program can be run with customizable icons and each entry is added to the taskbar.

To use the program as a root folder of a portable folder choose Options - Local path, then use a forward slash: "\". To set an image as a background place it in the application folder and set path as "image name.jpg" etc.

Category:
System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder. FoldersOptions.ini, & QuickWayToFolders.ini
Unicode support: No
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)

How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice.
  2. Launch QuickWayToFolders.exe.
  3. Right-click the taskbar icon, select Options and uncheck "Launch at Windows Startup"
What's new?
  • Option added : Start Maximized
  • Bug solved: in browser view, items position was not properly saved on exit
  • Bug solved: in browser view, large / extra large mode were not taken into account
  • Bug solved: in desktop view, fast multiple documents creation or change on desktop can make application crash

I extracted the zip to a folder on my thumbdrive and attempted to launch QuickWayToFolders.exe (thumbdrive attached to my netbook - WinXP SP3). I got "The procedure entry point ShutdownBlockReasonDestroy could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll."
This looks like it might be a great addition to my portables -- any help would be appreciated!

A great yet simple way to achieve native multi-desktops in Windows 7 x64 (I mean desktops as physical locations, bearing in mind the default one is usually located at %USERPROFILE%\Desktop):

1) Define any number of folders in QuickWayToFolders (QW2F) with "Shortcut Type" as "Local Path" (e.g.: Desk2, Desk3, ...);

2) Customize them through QW2F's "Options | Browsing options", taking care to check "Hide toolbar For Home Folder" and "Save Icons Positions For Home Folder", setting "View Type" to "Medium", as well as a different "Show / Hide Hotkey" (Win+F2, Win+F3, ... are viable choices);

3) For easier visual identification, set different background pictures for each folder in "Customization";

4) Open "FoldersOptions.ini" in QW2F folder with any text editor and change all "IsMaximized=0" to "1".

Launch and you're good to go -- to get back to the default desktop, press Win+D. There are a few quirks to iron, but not a bad solution in the end. :)
