Synopsis: nPOPuk is lightweight yet feature-rich e-mail client that is based on nPOP. Features include multiple saveboxes, additional mail filtering options, basic viewer for HTML-only messages and option to send them to an external program (web browser), option to quote only portions of a message when replying/forwarding, etc.

How to extract: Download the ZIP package (different versions for Win9x/ME and WinNT/2K/XP) and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch nPOPuk.exe.

  • Added: A Redirect facility.
    This is similar to forwarding but removes any indication that the message passed through an intermediate account. (Servers at GMail defeats this facility)

Synopsis: Mozilla Thunderbird is an email client with SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, NNTP and RSS support. It comes with advanced message filtering, Bayesian spam detector and built-in spell checker.

Thunderbird Portable is a special build of Mozilla Thunderbird that is optimized for use on a USB key drive. It has some specially-selected optimizations to make it perform faster and extend the life of your USB key as well as a specialized launcher that will allow most of your favorite extensions to work as you switch computers.

You might also want to take a look at Mobility Email, which is another portable distribution for Mozilla Thunderbird with Enigmail OpenPGP baked in.

Yet another portable distribution for Thunderbird is X-Thunderbird.

How to extract: Download the self-extracting EXE and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch ThunderbirdPortable.exe.

Unicode support: Partial. Thunderbird has problems creating local files with filenames that cannot be encoded using the current code page. For example, if your current code page is Chinese, but you are trying to save to a Korean filename, the output filename will be a bunch of underscore characters.

Synopsis: POP Peeper is an email notifier that alerts you when you have new email on any of your POP3, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo, Mail.com, MyWay, Excite, Lycos.com, or RediffMail accounts. You can also send emails using your SMTP server or through your webmail account directly from POP Peeper.

How to extract: Download the installer and extract to a folder of your choice. Remove $PLUGINSDIR and [NSIS].nsi. Launch POPPeeper.exe. When you run the program for the first time, you will be presented with a configuration wizard. Make sure you select "Store data for portability" when asked where to store the program settings.

Synopsis: Koma-Mail is a multi-user email client with support for IMAP/POP3/SMAP/WebDAV. It has a built-in spam filter, as well as JavaScript/ActiveX blocker. It supports HTML emails and inline attachments. It can also be used as a RSS newsfeed reader.

Note: It has been reported that Koma-Mail displays a donation dialog once in a long while. I have not been able to reproduce this behaviour, but do take note if you want to give this app a try.
