What is unfortunate is that the new version includes a license proposal. Nothing is mandatory "a priori", but to see appearing in the interface the mention "Not registered" is unpleasant. Especially because the proposal of donation is not free, but fixed at 10 euros minimum.

MIKLO on 2018-04-06 15:14

@Guido76 Yeah I gotta agree I don't really like the way this is done either, I'm just gonna keep using the older (NO NAG) version that works great. This is still my favorite and best name changer in my opinion..... Please donate, but ya gotta "donate" this amount is a very strange concept, but I guess a guy has gotta make some Euro's some kinda way. lol

@shnbwmn,
I tried every version past 5.60 to see if upgrading was warranted. None were, so I found desktop version 5.60 and I'm staying with that.

shnbwmn on 2016-12-08 20:41

Thanks.

@shnbwmn There have been a TON of changes that you can check out in the Softpedia changelog, but I don't know if there's any crucial updates that you're missing out on with the old version. The program was one of my favorites before the change, but since there I've mostly switched to Ant Renamer.

Ant Renamer v2.12.0

Checker on 13 Jul 2015
  • 3MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 4 Jul 2015
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Ant Renamer provides many options for the batch renaming of files and folders. The program includes the ability to change file extension, replace/insert/move strings, change case, even give files random names. The program can even rename based on date and time (great for scanned files) or using exif/mp3 tag info (making metadata the file name), or regular expressions. File renaming can be previewed before execution and changes can be added to a batch file and saved for future use.

Alternatively, Ant Renamer Portable (PortableApps.com Format, adjust drive letters and paths as you move PCs).

What's new?
  • Option (disabled by default) to consider the last "." in folder name as extension delimiter. Previous versions were always considering that a folder could have an extension, but that's commonly used.
  • When folders are renamed, the path of files in the list is updated if needed. Previous versions were giving an error as files contained by renamed folders were not found anymore.
  • "Case sensitive" option in the "Multiple string replace" action.
  • A few bugs fixed.

@ smaragdus: Thanks ... and updated ;)

There is no way to rename using multiple methods/rules at the same time. You have to use one method at a time. Also, can't preview all the files and can't undo after closing the software. So, I prefer Advanced Renamer.

I don't know whether it is solid, but it is not portable, I extracted the x64 bit installer ('solid_renamer-120-x64.exe', version 1.2.0.5) and it stored its settings in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Bitdreamers\Solid Renamer. I cut the config folder and put it in program's folder but the next time I ran it, this renamer re-created its config folder in AppData. The previous version (1.1.1) may not be that solid but at least is portable.
