Uups, sorry.
Changed back to v1.5.0

smaragdus on 2017-06-11 06:08

I cannot find RedNotebook version 2.0 for Windows (as of 2017-06-11):
it seems that currently it is available for Linux only.
The latest version available for Windows is 1.15.

ashghost on 2017-09-09 01:36

@smaragdus: Version 2.2 was recently released for Windows according to changelog here:

The project seems to have moved to GitHub. Downloads (Windows .exe and source archives) are here: The link to Windows versions on the website now links to there.

I have not tested it for portability.

FileOptimizer v12.50 Updated

billon on 27 Feb 2018
  • 194MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 27 Feb 2018
  • Suggested by I am Baas

FileOptimizer is a broad format file compression tool used to reduce file size without changing the quality, known as "lossless." This is done via wide variety of optimization and recompression tools and techniques. Original files are sent to the recycle bin for restoration in the event the uncompressed version is preferred. A long list of supported formats include audio/video (MP3, OGG, M4A), image (GIF, JPEG, PNG), office formats (DOCX, XLSX, ODT, PDF) and system files (DLL, EXE).

Supports drag-and-drop of files into the window or onto the program icon. Note that by default the program removes metadata for many file types. This information reduces overall file size and protects privacy but is important to some users (e.g. photographers) and file search tools.

A 64-bit version is available within the folder, the author reports the program is functional in WINE, and can be used on the command line.

System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10 / Wine
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: GNU AGPL
How to extract: Download the self-extracting 7z package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch FileOptimizer32.exe or FileOptimizer64.exe (for 64-bit OS).

Optionally, to save space:
  • 32-bit systems: delete FileOptimizer64.exe and the \Plugins64 folder
  • 64-bit systems: delete FileOptimizer32.exe and the \Plugins32 folder
  • Delete unnecessary language files
Similar/alternative apps: ArcThemALL!, PngOptimizer, RIOT
What's new?
  • Switched to AGPL license to protect it from modifications in network environments and making it compatible with Ghostcript.
  • Added full licensing files to all plugins to avoid any confusion.
  • Made:
    • About and Option windows resizable;
    • Ads load smoother.
  • Retested in Windows XP SP3.
  • Updated:
    • pngquant to 2.11.7;

Looks like version 11.40 phones home on every startup now, regardless of settings, probably trying to fetch some ads, well I'm not giving it a firewall rule so I'll be sticking with version 11.31 for the time being.

nikkho on 2017-11-26 09:27

@Special do you mean that even if ads are not shown they are loaded?

nikkho on 2017-11-26 11:15

@Special. Fixed!

I fail to see what makes FocusWriter's user interface less user-friendly than that of Q10 of WriteMonkey, the two other similar programs I can find. By the way, FocusWriter isn't stuck to full-screen either: just press F11…

AndTheWolf on 2013-06-30 16:08

Link still points to FocusWriterPortable_1.3.2.1.paf.exe

JohnTHaller on 2013-06-30 17:03

AndTheWolf - It's fixed. Some editors keep pointing to static URLs instead of the download page for some reason. So, when it's updated, the download winds up wrong.

LibreOffice Portable v6.0.1 Rev 2 Updated

billon on 20 Feb 2018
  • 493MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 19 Feb 2018
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

LibreOffice is a complete productivity suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, database, drawing tool and more. Includes strong compatibility for 100s of file formats including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.). The program is similar to OpenOffice, a program that it was derived from, but has added many new features and improvements.

LibreOffice Portable is a special build developed in conjunction with the publisher. A "Still" version that's more tested and stable but with fewer features/capabilities is available via the website link. On systems without Java installed, some functions such as document creation wizards and the Base database application etc. can be enabled by adding jPortable, though this is optional and can be skipped if those functions are not needed. Alternatively, X-LibreOffice is also available.

Cross platform with versions available for Mac, Linux/BSD (comes default with most distros) and supports a variety of extensions. A more stable "Still" version is available from the website link.

System Requirements: Win7 / Win8 / Win10 / Wine
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
Path portability: Automatic compensation for dynamic drive letter in removable storage devices
How to extract: Download the portable installer and install to a folder of your choice. Launch LibreOfficePortable.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: OpenOffice, SoftMaker Office

5.4.4 and later do not work on XP. 6.0.0 and later will not work on XP or Vista. They have moved to a more modern compiler.

CornHolio the Gringo on 2018-02-06 15:05

I have to correct JohnTHaller`s statement.
All LibreOffice v5.x.x series are WinXP compatible.

JohnTHaller on 2018-02-06 15:32

I know. It turns out it was due to additional shared DLL requirements in 5.4.4 over 5.4.3. I'm working on a fix for the LibreOffice Portable 5.4.4 Still package currently.
