brickablesmile: presence of adware confirmed (and entry edited), but every source I've read indicates that the user is prompted. Please post in forums if that's changed.

I am Baas on 2013-09-13 03:25

It's possible to extract the installer, entry updated.

Midas on 2013-09-13 08:57

Glad to see Audiograbber is still around, as it was the first trustworthy CD ripper I ever used, back in the 90's... :)

It was only deprecated when I discovered bit accurate Exact Audio Copy (not portable, but there are portabilized versions floating around the Web).

Only notice webfork's comment today. Used Universal Extractor 2 https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2764 to extract to a new folder and ran vv.exe. Still unable to get portable version to run, even as administrator.

Andrew Lee on 2021-04-01 01:35

The portable ZIP did not work, but the extracted installer files worked fine for me without running as admin.

Compared to two other unit conversion tools here on the site, it seems a little more organized than Extreme Units Converter and seems to convert a lot more than Converber.

Real nice converter .. have been using ESB Unit Converter and ESB Calculator for 9 ? years .. they are a pleasure to use.

Also leaves C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Application Data\NwDocx\document.xml and document.xml.rels that contain all of the information in the last document opened !!!!! This is NOT nice !!!!!

webfork on 2012-03-19 02:26

Neutron: True -- newer versions started writing files to AppData. The empty file trick should fix that.

webfork on 2013-02-16 00:15

Comment: viewing quality of several DOC and DOCX format files was fairly simple. Both LibreOffice and AbiWord seemed like better converters, although this would be great for getting at the document's core text.

Fergus on 2010-09-29 13:45

I've done this, but I still get the "Register Now" nag. Pressing clears the nag, but it's awfully irritating. Is there a way of disabling it?

Fergus on 2010-09-29 19:46

OK managed to get a register code; use it once and hey presto away you go. BUT the code is written o a local gsview.ini which also incorporates named drive letters. Move your USB stick to another host machine where it will very likely be named differently and gsview.ini is suddenly broken -- you have to supply the reg code again. Very VERY annoying; not true portable freeware, at all ...

Ascend4nt on 2012-01-24 22:37

Setup is a bit more tricky then running a self-extracting executable, and dumping Ghostscript in the same folder. Here's what I had to do:
1. Download the GSView self-extracting exe and the associated Ghostscript exe
2. Open the GSView self-extracting exe with 7-zip or other archive software and extract everything except the files indicated in 'How to Extract'. (RUNNING the exe will install a non-portable version!!)
3. Create a 'gs9.04' subfolder in the folder that GSviewPortable is in. (it seems the name is usually 'gs' followed by the version #).
4. Open the Ghostscript exe with an archive utility, go to $_OUTDIR, and extract all the files from that folder into the subfolder just created (in this case, gs9.04)
5. Now you can run GSviewPortable

*Note: I can verify what Fergus says - Registration screen pops up on run. Not a huge deal for me

I tested it and ImageBatch worked for me under Windows 8 x64. It threw error messages only when I tried to add folders and files with Unicode names- it could not process them because ImageBatch does not support Unicode. It is very unlikely that this program will ever be updated.

Specular on 2018-05-05 04:26

@smaragdus thing is I found that even paths with no Unicode resulted in the same error so not sure what it is (didn't try Midas' suggestion however). The files themselves were named 0001.bmp, and onward, about 400 files in all, and were being converted to PNG, fwiw.

smaragdus on 2018-05-05 20:03

@Specular
I ran ImageBatch as administrator.
Anyway, FastStone Photo Resizer and XnConvert are more powerful and I guess they should work better.
For conversion and resizing for years I have been using mainly FastStone Photo Resizer (I prefer version 3.5 which has skins which were removed in later versions).

Downloaded this to try exporting the pages of a PDF file to image files. It didn't work at all, just returned an unhelpful "failure" message.

RecRedDot on 2012-04-06 15:54

The "About PtoBMP" window says it will extract BMP/JPG from PDF files 'created by BtoPDF' (ONLY!!!); this should be clearly described in Synopsys to avoid frustracting loss of time attempting extraction of JPG from PDF files not created with this utility.

juvera on 2014-12-27 01:14

Disappointing, this app does not extract jpg images from pdf files.
But this one does: http://tcpdiag.dl.sourceforge.net/project/pdftojpg/pdftojpg/pdf_to_jpg_1a/PDF_to_JPG_exe.zip
It is a command line application (therefore it does not qualify according to portablefreeware) very easy to use (just pass the name of the pdf file as an argument, and all the images are extracted in a folder created and located in the folder where you launch the app). From what I have tested, the images are extracted with their original resolution.
