Graphics - Screen Capture (22)

Snippy v0.41 Updated

webfork on 12 Apr 2013

Snippy allows you to capture a particular region of the screen to the Windows clipboard, able to be pasted into any program that supports it. If cutting out a portion of an Internet Explorer window, the URL will also be copied to the clipboard. The region is an irregular shape by default, though you can capture a rectangular area holding down the Shift key while dragging.

Category:
System Requirements: Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry. But given the nature of the application and the small number of settings it saves, I think it can be accepted as portable.
Dependencies: Snippy requires GDI+ to run. If you plan to run it on pre-WinXP systems, you will need to download GDIPLUS.DLL and include it in the same directory as the EXE.
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the stand-alone EXE file to a folder of your choice. Launch Snippy.exe.

The download link is misleading, but many mirrors are on the web. I downloaded it from softpedia:

As a web developer and graphic designer, I've been uding this tool for over 4 years, most time on a daily basis alongside onenote. So far I have only tested a few other screenshot tools before and they were bloated with crappy UI. The 3 main reasons why I find it so great; friendly UI design, it's lite on resources and loaded with tons of extras all for free.
Most used features are crop, resize, draw, capture entire page and copy.

freakazoid on 2013-04-10 01:05

I've been running into some issues with Faststone Capture and Windows 8. When I attempt to draw on the screenshot and apply my changes, FastStone freezes.

I'm now using a Firefox extension instead - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/awesome-screenshot-capture-/

The best screen capture tool by a country mile and I think I`ve tried them all. Simply brilliant, intuitive, easy to use and fast.

WinSnap v1.1.10 New

webfork on 7 May 2013

WinSnap is a small utility for taking and editing screenshots. It can easily capture screenshots of non-rectangular windows with the background of your choice, automatically perform simple canvas transformations and coloring effects, add professional Photoshop-style shadows etc. Note that if you are running this on versions of Windows before XP, you will need to place GDIPLUS.DLL in the application folder.

Note: Starting from V2.x, WinSnap is no longer free for personal use. I have included a direct download for the last freeware version that I have. If you have a more recent freeware version, please post in forums.

Category:
System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP

How to extract: Download the "WinSnap Portable Edition" ZIP package (or "WinSnap Portable Edition with GDI+" if you don't have GDIPLUS.DLL) and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch WinSnap.exe

Starting from WinSnap version 2 is no longer free ad indicated from their forums page.
http://www.ntwind.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=649

However, the portable version of 1.1.10 , which this app entry refers to, is still on the site so grab it while you can.

James on 2008-03-19 14:01

The last freeware portable edition is still available from the authors site, however it is difficult to find it.

The URL to the freeware download page is ...

I agree with CD. This is simply the best capture tool for Windows.

I made a JPE launcher for it as well.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2093243/Wink%20%5BJPE%5D.exe

Just download Wink from offical website then open the installer with 7zip and drag files in $R0 to App. You can delete the URL shortcut as well as the uninstaller if you want to save a bit of room :S

XtattiK on 2009-12-04 07:07

Sweet - my work just changed policy on user installation of software...so i've been hunting around like crazy for portable versions of all my fave programs so i can still use them. This works perfectly, cheers.

ChemZ on 2011-01-11 00:17

The Softpedia/PortableApps download link doesn't actually contain Wink, just the wrapper/launcher (which you will still need).

As -.- said:

- You need to download Wink from http://www.debugmode.com/wink
- Extract with 7zip or Universal Extractor
- Then copy the contents of $R0 into the App\Wink folder of the wrapper/launcher.

Bit of a hassle but it works. Good luck!
