AngelWriter would easily be my favourite fast-starting RTF editor if it were possible to switch off its pesky spell checking (that keeps underlining with those wavy red lines every word not written in English) and if it were possible to change the standard font (Times New Roman, Size 12) with which the program starts every time. As it is, I'll stick to the latest "Jarte" (ever since it got the new "Show Quick Bar" option which makes it easier to use now via a traditional buttons bar instead of just the drop-down menus).

No spell check other than highlighting words it thinks are misspelled as you type. Auto-corrects words with mixed case with no option (that I could see) to turn that off, making it impossible to type custom names and terms. Doesn't let you enter custom font sizes. |

@pelotti & webfork: Abiword (www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=493) includes a filter to import WordPerfect files, and, imho, is more suitable than LO Writer as a WordPad replacement.

FYI: Avast wants to run Q-jot in it's (imho increasingly annoying) sandbox. virustotal.com says it's all cool, only ClamAV reports it as a PUA, Possibly Unwanted App. It's packed with ASPack, which adds some reverse-engineering protection. I've used q-jot for almost 2 years now without any troubles and only recently it started triggering alerts. It's the packer (ASPack) used that triggers the alert, as it 'kinda obfuscates' the internal code.

@donald, |
q10 is a distraction-free, full screen writing environment (similar to Writeroom for OS X). Just you and a black screen to get your writing done without the distraction of menus, icons, etc. Includes a timer, spell check, and a customizable look. [Note: the version used for the size calculation was the version that includes the spell check]

One word: abandonware -- wish someone would take it up to iron the tiny niggles it still has... It would then be absolutely perfect!

You can now download a .zip of Q10 from the site & not have to mess around with the .paf file.

I've used this software for quite a while. It is specifically for writing screenplays. So if you want to write a script for your short film or a screenplay contest, this software rocks. It is feature rich. Otherwise if you are looking for something browser related, or a word processor, best to look elsewhere.

A Pretty good, basic editor, doesn't handle images but if you need an RTF editor this one's o.k. |
