@CB13RY: from my quick checking, it seems that if you run the portable version once, it creates a 'Settings.ini' file in the application folder; you can edit this file with any text editor to change the paths included -- I was able to change from absolute path to filename only...

Midas on 2011-11-07 14:47

BTW, current version is now 2.3 -- please update.

Lacuna Launcher v1.0.0

webfork on 20 Nov 2015
  • 462KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 12 Dec 2008
  • Suggested by lautrepay

Lacuna Launcher uses a single shortcut with a list of files to open all at once. Applications (.exe), shortcuts (.lnk), internet shortcuts (.url), images, music, movies, etc.

Category:
System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Freeware (Donationware)
How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Open the included list.txt file in a text editor and make a list with the paths to files you want to open, placing one per line (no limit)
  3. Launch ll.exe
Programs start in the same order that they appear in the list

Note: Command-line options are available to give you more control over timing of the launches and the ability to create multiple lists and specify which you would like to use. To launch files with command line parameters, create a shortcut with the parameters set, and use the path to the shortcut file (.lnk) in the list, instead of a direct path to the application.

Been using this app for a few years and it's great. I work part time at 3 different jobs and have a list created for each office. Run the appropriate command line first thing in the morning and all the programs/files I need for the day are loaded and ready to go.

Joe on 2015-02-02 14:35

A good simple alternative to Splat if you are only interested in launching programs.

You can create separate lists for programs you want to launch together, e.g. one for office work, one for graphic design, etc, etc. You can create a list of all your favorite programs and make them start with Windows. Does not remain open or resident in memory once all programs are launched.

Altogether a very useful program.

Tested and works in Windows 8.1 x64 too.

TP109 on 2015-11-17 01:33

Very useful and simple tool for launching programs, opening folders, URLs, etc. with a shortcut. Launch lists use a text file so it's super easy to modify lists quickly and easily with the default txt editor.

Hello everyone:) Sorry for my English.
Download link leads to http://www.8start.com/help-launcher.htm
And if you click "download", then download the setup file.
Link to zip and instruction - "3 ways to install 8start Launcher in your flash drive" at the bottom of the page.
Amusingly.

The links are broken, but the app is still available from https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/8start_launcher.html amongst other places.

olliebean on 2019-03-08 16:55

Sorry - regarding my previous comment, the version available from that link is the installer, not the zip package. But the program can be extracted with Universal Extractor, and is portable and stealth as far as I can tell.

It looks as if Lupo's UniExtractor (1.6) is having troubles with the latest Launchy executable v2.5.

This is how I fixed the problem...

I use Lupo's Universal Extractor - get the latest (v1.6 R8) updated Jan, 23, 2010. One problem, 'InnoUnp' is only @ 0.28, so you will need to get the latest 'innounp.exe' and update the \bin folder. This will do the trick, 'Launchy2.5.exe' can be extracted.

I actually use the google toolbar on the desktop to find any program to launch. I just type in parts of the word and it finds the application. Works great. And you don't have to add individual applications one by one. Anything you install is on the list, magically.

[BOT]Fluffy on 2007-02-12 11:34

Launchy is a spectacular launcher as well. Unfortunately it insists on building the index every time it starts instead of keeping a quick-reference database and performing small updates when necessary. Guillotine is also worthy of mention.

Yeah, I switched over to this from PStart for two reasons.
It starts much faster (especially if you have a huge --and growing-- collection of items), and secondly it has this pop-up application info which is a BRILLIANT idea so you can make notes on the fly about each item. In my opinion, pop-out notepads in Application interfaces are great. I can't believe all other software programmers don't see it... It's like having a handy personal Help/Note system one tiny click away from your App. Unfortunately I can't give ASuite 10/10 because of one missing feature... It won't allow you to drag in Web Links (URL's) from the browser...Gee I wish I could program,; I would immediately add this feature.

flector on 2010-10-07 15:31

I switched to ASuite after many years as a happy PStart user when the PStart.xml file got corrupted a couple of times.

Great software - simple and effective.

Two small nits:
* If you drag a folder into the app, it will rebuild the sub-tree of items in the folder every time the app is started (which takes time). This is easily avoided though by dragging in a shortcut instead of the folder itself.
* If a URL is dragged into the app from a browser, it's initially titled "Link" even though ASuite knows the URL.

Additional notes from the author (Jens Gruschel): "The installer has a combo box with all removable drives listed. But if you click the [Next] button, you can select any folder you want, so there is no need to copy the file afterwards (which you can do of course). I added this combo box, because I thought that most people would install it to a USB stick (in fact I wrote the program because I wanted such a tool for my USB stick). But since I also like programs located on my D: drive, I didn't want to limit it to removable drives."

When I installed the newest version of PStart on my E-drive I replaced the old version of PStart on the D-drive at the same time, however only the menu of the E-drive was working.
After your last comment that I should work, I completely removed PStart from the D-drive and reinstalled it again.
