EssentialPIM includes a calendar/scheduler, todo list, contact manager, basic e-mail client, and tree-like multi-level notes tool that supports rich text, formatting, and images.
While many advanced functions such as synchronization and encryption are exclusive in the Pro version, the program is capable of manually importing from variety of formats including Outlook, TreePad, Google calendar etc. Additionally, it can export to many formats including HTML, vCard, iCal, RTF, CSV, iPod, text, etc.

I like options import, export. And I hope the next version can be shoose from Contact to export contact by e-mail address only, name and tel., select all, etc. (like a options in MS Outlook).
Thank's EssentialPIM team. It's good job.
Man, I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Portable, with all my schedule and todo's right on my usb drive.
In polish lang I can't write some polish letters!!
It does support unicode. Some import/export filters maybe not completely, but all data inside can be in any alphabet
It does require that IE be the default browser in order to print anything out. They said that they are working on changing it in version 2.1. We'll see.
@Keith: It requires IE to be installed, not to be the default browser ...
@Zappa: Then why can I not print anything out? Here's my post on their forum.....
http://www.essentialpim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5006&highlight=printing
@Keith: Don't know, what your problem is. We have Firefox as default browser on all of our machines and never had any printing problems with EPIM (not in 1.x nor 2.0x). Maybe you destroyed Windows (IE's) default HTML rendering with Avast, Maxthon or some other IE- offset.
Acording to my tests, some of the features present in the EPIM FREE version 1.95 are not in the EPIM FREE 2.0 version. See the post below:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1844
Where can I get a copy of V1.95? Anyone have one?
@Crid - Get it here: http://lupo73.altervista.org/schede/essentialpimportable.htm
How can I set the first day of a week from Monday to Sunday? I couldn't find this option.
I do not use it often anymore. Google calendar and notes/todo gadgets on iGoogle rocks (portable 101%) I use now mostly the tree notes and contact info as main contact base with ALL contacts I have...even ones that I do not use :)
Plugins should be implemented..but it's not gonna happen soon
Looks like versions 2.0 and above are
actually trial versions of professional software
After 500 entries it stops further entries
and recommends that you buy the pro version
Even deletion of unwanted entries doesn't allow
you to enter more entries in the schedule
@indy ram: I use v2.2 now and I have more than 1000 contacts. I can still add contacts and delete them. Are you sure your version is the FREE one ?
I have a suggestion for EssentialPIM developers, just like utorrent has a web interface, EssentialPIM should have one too, so I can run it on my computer at home or office and then access my records using http://mycomputersIpAddress:port/ and it would ask me my password/username and I will have access to all the content though web, although EssentialPIM is portable but I think this kind of feature (as they have it in outlook) would boost the popularity of product a lot. :)
I like this app. One glitch I have experienced is that when I try to INSERT HYPERLINK into a NOTE entry, the dialog box opens and I am able to enter the TEXT and TARGET information; the hyperlink is created in the note, however, there is note action when you click on the created link. Anyone else experience this?
Typo in the comment: "there is note action" should be "there is no action", i.e. the link does not appear to work.
Moogy Reister, keep CTRL key pressed!
Nice tool, fresh colors. I use ToDoList, which has a flatter look. Ess.PIM. gives a better overlook on more-day tasks. I will give a try besides ToDoList (also on this site).
Also it will be good to mention free Mozilla Sunbird. It is not so reach about features, but anyway good!
this is not freeware, this is CRIPPLEWARE!
The preview screenshot is still of the pro version which isn't free, I haven't checked this version to still see if it nags you but if you like when I do I can grab a screenshot
Need help can't open essentialpim free on through a network, need a login and password, how can i change this??
@ bigstusexy
That's the pro version. Maybe someone modified it. o.o'
Sigh. Free version does not offer encryption as the Synopsis at the top of the page (above) indicates. Pro only feature according to the website.
Newest version (3.01) does not support Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K
3.02 supports win2k, can confirm it.
Here's EssentialPIM 1.95 Free Portable:
http://web.archive.org/web/20070320185419/web.starman.ee/swmirror/essentialpimport1.zip
I prefer the earlier version. I had some trouble exporting stuff.
Other than that it's great.
Yeah, so i might prefer the earlier version, but i still think it's good.
I purchased a 'portable' copy and it's got the lot.
@Chris on 04/09: the current free version does indeed offer encryption. Aside from that, my take on this app is that it does so much right, that the things it cannot do are heartbreaking. Do this: create a new, empty database, then add a daily, repeating task. What does EPIM do? It creates thousands of database entries for this one task for the next ten years, instead of one entry that repeats daily (duh). How is this efficient database usage? How can this be after three major revisions? Ugh. Still, few things compare to the featureset.
its very nice we can travel with records as notes, todos only on USB
Pls add a small drawing toolbar for notes as in MS one note if possible
Canīt open my essential pim database.
Can someone help me
Regards

Program webpage states that encryption is not offered in the free version. From http://www.essentialpim.com/?r=products&pr=essentialpim&prr=provsfree (see Secure Advanced Encryption - Yes for Pro version, No for Free version).
As far as I can see, the free version does not synchronise with Google Calendar. Pity
I have tried several freeware portable PIMs and EssentialPIM suits me best. In my view The latest installations offer little extra over version 1.95 (See Ancient Images above for download location).
The version 1.95 running file-set is, after deleting unused language files and using UPX compression, much smaller in size than the later versions.
Version 1.95 has a built Outlook synchronisation facility, both forwards and backwards, without the need to export to a file and then import as in the current free versions.
Version 1.95 databases are considerable smaller than the those produced by the latest version. The database file size for an identical schedule and contact list are:
1,661 kB in version 1.95
2,768 kB in version 3.72
I was looking for a portable Outlook Express replacement and this is the best I found.
And is a lot better than OE.
It support multiple accounts, unicode, multiple languages, you can choose to see all messages in global or separated folders and export messages to *.eml.
Also has calendar, notes, contacts, etc that you can disable if you want.
The con: I imported some 8500 messages.
Afterwards it takes some 3 or five minutes to open the prog. (notebook @ i5-m450 @2GB ram @WXP)
Please correct the download link (3 -> 4). Thanks!
dd: if it is taking so long it is probably because you backup your database each time.
Great software except that, for those of us still using paper organizers, it does not allow the sort of printing customizations that MS Outlook does. In fact, no other electronic organizer offers printing customizations the way Outlook does. This sucks because it would be nice to avoid MicroSquish products whenever possible.
EssentialPIM Portable
I love the ability of importing both KeyNote & TreePad program files.
I also enjoy the Spell check feature, as in My Microsoft Works word processor.
* The underlining of misspelled words, This helps me write a note quickly for the web & know that it was done right the first time.
I feel that KeyNote & TreePad has grown into a much more productive use (Along with your Program).
The information that I've saved into these two programs store most all me information and the importing of them is a grate feature, ALONG with your search feature.
I love the work you've done and to have all this in a portable program is outstanding.
Now I can get started checking out the rest of the program.
PS. The Icon customizing in the tree structure is Perfect.
Your a blessing to all who want a portable buddy on there memory USB stick.
A true Personal Information Manager (PIM).
V4.02
PS. EssentialPIM Portable
One thing I would like to see added to the Note Tree;
1. _______Node linking, as done in TreePad
This feature would help in many ways: Such as an Contents of Internal notes (NODE Linking)
**** Help / Reminder / To Do / Project structure outlines / Grocery shopping list / Web Page Links and so on.
This would be on my wish list, for your programmers.
Thanks again for all the work your doing with this Program
V4.02
Essential PIM is not Stealth, it writes Data (including the Database .epim) to the App Data Folder
V4.02
@Frank. EssentialPIM Portable does NOT write data (*.ini or *.epim) to the Appl. Data Folder, but to the Ess.PIM folder.
V4.2
Great program. I think this is the best PIM out there, IMHO.
V4.2
The box at the top-right that rotates out other features of the pro version. When I was trying out using this as a "tree"-style editor, this was really annoying.
V5.02
This is not true and the preview Image is incorrect. EPIM has a small text advert on the upper right hand of the of the program window. Its just to advertise the Pro version of the program but its always there and cycles through a few different words.
