[Anonymous] WebforkBest FTP client I've used:

* You can backup your settings (a few kilobytes) or the whole program with the portable version.
* Very compatible with a very wide variety of FTP, FTPs, and SFTP servers I've used both Windows and Linux. Very reliable - never crashes.
* Close the program and re-launch when you get home and it will remember what was in your queue.
* Bandwidth throttling to prevent saturating your upload/download.

Only FlashFXP provides something extra (FTP Search capability) but isn't free OR portable.

Unfortunately not all features currently implemented in the old 2.x versions could make it into 3.0.0. However most of them will be implemented in a future version. In addition, FileZilla 2 and 3 can coexist on the same system in case you depend on a feature currently in 2.x

[Anonymous] linuxampV3 still does not support public/private key SFTP without Pageant. Wonder if they'll ever support it. [2007-09-09 20:59]

[Anonymous] CommanderVersion 3 is not completely ready for prime time, since it does not yet support command line functions.

I'll stay with version 2 until command line is supported.

[Anonymous] tomasSC10MB ?!?!
this used to be a portable & LIGHTWEIGHT app

[Anonymous] CommanderVersion 3 still does NOT support command line functions. Version 2 seems like a much better program for now. Sometimes "progress" goes in the wrong direction. [2007-11-09 06:34]

[Anonymous] CommanderAs best I can tell, this still does not support the command line functions available in 2.x.

Strange to release a new version that lacks major features of the previous version.

I'll stick with version 2.x until command line functions are added to version 3.x.

[Anonymous] JesseI thought the final version would finally add command line support (which version 2 already had and was dropped in version 3), but no luck.

I agree with the comments above that this new version is not as useful as version 2.

Why would they go backwards and elminate functions from new versions?

[Anonymous] PaciuliVersion 3 has been rewritten from scratch, so no wonder some old features may be lacking. Still, i relly miss some of them too, so i'm keeping both versions but still use 2.x all the time [2008-01-11 12:11]

[Anonymous] MehrezI have tested several clients. This is my first choice. Thanks. [2008-03-08 12:34]

[Anonymous] KlausBrilliant software. Fast, reliable and PORTABLE. Love it. [2008-03-12 02:29]

[Anonymous] KermodeIf you feel its lacking functions, perhaps you should go bitch on the page of the people who actually program it. [2008-03-25 09:26]

[Anonymous] rBeware! FileZilla does not encrypt your saved passwords in the Site Manager or any where else! It is saved in plain text! [2009-03-11 23:12]

[Anonymous] semiRocketI can confirm that, passwords are saved in addition to other settings in %AppData%\FileZilla\sitemanager.xml
Great thing if you forget your password ;-)

[User] avoidzI had no trouble with version 2, but since version 3 I can never stop FileZilla from disconnecting from the server - any help? Cheers! [2009-11-23 13:26]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
