raphael: Yup great, but then again my simple portable mediaplayer MPLAYER does it all :-)
BTW, as any player should IMHO. [2006-11-25 10:55]
Zen: raphael> MPLAYER does not tel you what are all the tags included in the file, or the codec settings (MP3 VBR or not, DivX with B-frames or not...). MediaInfo is useful for codec finding *and* a lot of other things ;-) [2006-11-26 04:59]
tripex: It's not that accurate than GSpot, i.e the bitrate when vbr. Audio and video bitrate was wrong on my test files).
Furthermore it tells you only DivX 5 instead of DivX 6.4 and so on... [2007-02-07 14:51]
spchtr: Aspect Ratio function seems to have changed. Movies that previously reported 2.35 are reporting 16/9 (1.777) which is quite a difference... I use this program to figure AR for MediaCoder when I reencode to mp4. [2007-02-07 16:48]
Webfork: Since the download link has a long list of files that may confuse those not familiar with sourceforge:
You'll want to get the file:
"MediaInfo_0.7.4.6_GUI_Win32_WithoutInstaller.7z"
(Note that over the weeks or months, those numbers may increase as the program is updated but the "GUI_Win32_WithoutInstaller" will likely remain.) [2007-04-29 17:21]
Zen: tripex> DivX 6.4 codec does NOT exist, the 4CC is always DX50 (wich is always only MPEG-4 ASP codec...). The encoder is DivX 6.4 (you can see it in the detailled views), and any MPEG-4 player will read this file, even if the player is released 2 years before the release of DivX 6.4 ;-)
spchtr> This may be a bug, I will verify the AR on my test files.
If you have some problems with this version, you can create a bug report on Sourceforge project page.

gamiras: Unicode support is partial. Unicode paths aren't accepted when sent from command line. [2008-04-16 07:54]
tripex: avinaptic is the best if information is more important than a cute look [2008-05-24 09:45]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
