Refefer: Out of minor curiosity, doesn't this program violate the adware/spyware deal? Not to split hairs, but an ad is an ad. [2006-07-23 22:59]
Andrew Lee: You are right. I discussed about this issue here: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=358. It's hard to draw a black-and-white boundary. For example, are "lite" versions of commercial apps with disabled features nagware/adware? For me, it comes down to whether I feel the author is purposely trying to inconvenience the user in order to pay money for his software. I know, it's not really objective. Maybe we can continue our discussion in the forum and hopefully a clearer picture will emerge. [2006-07-24 01:15]
ekin_116: On the newest version 6.5.5, there is no advertisements after exit [2006-10-09 20:46]
bjorn: I can't find the freeware version. Offered is a 30 day trial. So I think it should be labeled shareware [2006-10-10 06:06]
Software_problem_solver: this software has limited to exe's and dll's only, does not scan all files completely. that's easy to miss some infected files like zip, rar, and others. I would give them double thumb-down... ;) [2006-10-10 17:03]
Andrew Lee: Can't find the freeware version? Just click on the download link! From the product website: "Multi Virus Cleaner is a free, stand-alone utility used to detect and remove major viruses." [2006-10-10 23:44]
raphael: Just the app we don't need. Beside the fact that there are more then enough arround, the change that this is equaly good as any of the existing apps is so minor. And then this spamware setup. Boooooo. No like it. Burn it. [2006-12-05 04:25]
ahoier: I'd be interested where they get their definitions from...I mean, with the likes of ClamAV (ClamWin for Windows...) being opensource and such...sure no AV is 100% perfect protection...but, has he just combined the definitions for a couple AV scanners, "under 1 hood" per se?
I don't believe in Antivirus anyways ;) But "safe computing" :) But still curious. I still like looking into apps like this, to see what kind of false positives I get ;) [2007-01-13 06:58]
Thor: It can detect over 6000 common viruses now. [2007-10-30 09:15]
HomerSmith: This program is freeware, not shareware. I use it to clean off viruses on client's PCs in M$ Win XP/safe mode. The new version works great and is stable. Not a replacement for antivirus software, but a great tool for your USB drive toolkit. [2007-10-30 18:00]
Carbonize: You say this is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection but their website says "VirusKeeper boasts an advanced real-time analysis engine that constantly protects your computer while you work." [2008-04-27 09:59]
Carbonize: Ignore my previous comment as that refers to the professional version they do. There is a big fault with this program though and that's the fact you have to download the entire thing again to update the definitions. [2008-04-28 12:06]
Grant: Wow, you guys are incredible. Trend is a known, trusted brand and the program is free. ClamWin is well-respected software, but it's got its faults.. it's always seemed pretty slow to me. Anyway, thanks Andrew. [2008-05-12 08:57]
bhong: I just installed the new version of Multi Virus Cleaner 2008 how can I update its definition? [2008-06-05 19:31]
AshGhost: Universal Extractor no longer works for me on version 8.6.1. I had to install - copy - uninstall. [2009-01-11 11:11]
Loner: Just installed newest version, 8.6.1 on my USB flash drive, and on my main drive. Neither installs works. Got error message saying I need to close program and report problem. Have no clue if its any good. [2009-01-11 18:42]
Queue: It can still be UniExtract'd, you just need a newer version of InnoUnp. [2009-01-11 22:36]
Mac: It doesn't perfom the signature by itself. When you press the "Download" button in the Update section, the default browser will open the page http://www.viruskeeper.com/us/mvc.htm (!!??)... Fake! [2009-02-01 00:00]
anon: Mac: Read the page it opens -- MVC is not self-updating. You have to download manually the new version and (re)install over it. Not fake, but annoying. [2009-11-29 22:45]

All HTML tags will be removed from your comment. URLs (http, https, ftp) will be automatically detected and hyperlinked. I reserve the right to delete irrelevant, frivolous or offensive comments. For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
