Synopsis: X Operations is a tactical first-person shooter with an emphasis on realism. Most of the time you can only take a few bullets before you die; weapons are more accurate when fired in short bursts; you have limited inventory. There is a wide range of weapons and maps. It requires a minimum system configuration of DirectX 8.1, Celeron 633MHz, 64Mb RAM and Geforce2MX to play.

Note: The website and game are both in Japanese, but there is an fan-made English translation patch available.

Writes settings to: Application folder

How to extract: Download the ZIP file and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch config4xops05.exe to set options first, then launch xops096.exe to play the game.

Note: The English translation patch should be extracted to the X Operations directory.

[Anonymous] atomizerNew development version available - 1.8 - with initial multiplayer. English manual available also, though only for the MP part. Direct link http://www.vector.co.jp/download/file/win95/game/ff401368.html [2006-06-09 10:07]

[Anonymous] TheOneKnownAsFerretthis game is insanely fun, but it seemed after i stopped playing it for a day or too, even with the simple controls, it was like the AI had gotten harder to beat, moving moreoften, getting more headshots, making it harder to beat. IMHO, this is a game to play. [2006-09-28 10:46]

[Anonymous] TelamonIts worth pointing out that the Unofficial homepage has links to additional levels AND english translations for the base levels (very handy if you dont read Japanese)
There are also tools for editing your own maps (no english instructions but easy to use if you've already done some modding)

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
