Synopsis: UPX is a command-line tool that can significantly reduce the size of both EXEs and DLLs, allowing more programs to be packed onto a USB drive. No additional software is required for the compressed EXEs or DLLs to work. An additional benefit is a potentially faster loading program due to fewer read cycles to load the EXEs/DLLs. UPXShell is a GUI wrapper for UPX for the command-line intimidated.

How to extract: Download the single EXE file to a folder of your choice. Then download the latest version of UPX and extract upx.exe to the same folder. Launch UPX_Shell.exe.

Zen_Doggie: This is a great utility packaged with the original command-line tool. It would be much better if it could compress files in a batch mode. Or it would be great if it offered a more extensive GUI that could search for all candidate files on a drive or path. [2006-06-07 12:57]

The Best tool in compression: Usually compresses from 40% to 65% for me in every program!!
Very useful tool to compress big programs to fit on a usb stick. [2008-04-08 08:28]

jhacks23: great tool, just to test it out I compressed thunderbird.exe on my app menu and it compressed it from 11MB to aroud 5MB. Real nice. [2010-04-03 14:11]
