[Anonymous] XanbarSavageEd is just the thing if you're looking for a fast, stable notepad replacement that's easy on the resources. It can open large files in the blink of an eye, has never crashed on me yet, and when I requested a right-click context menu a few versions back, the author was quick to add it. What a guy! Highly recommended for anyone seeking a robust notepad without a lot of useless bells and whistles. [2006-11-26 23:41]

[Anonymous] lkjl;kjjust installed this and it seams like a great little notepad software. very easy to keep your system clean. [2007-01-24 13:34]

[Anonymous] mbirthOne little bad thing I noticed: If you save a file which had Unix-style linebreaks (SavageEd opens them fine, notepad.exe doesn't) they get converted to DOS/Windows-style linebreaks. Also I'm missing a status bar which shows current line/col-position. But despite that, it's a wonderful little tool! [2007-08-07 01:16]

[Anonymous] Dale WoloshinAnd one of the best short documentation pieces I've ever seen. I love it when it is clear which files I need, and which ones have code or other stuff that I don't have to save (like skins, language files, etc.) [2007-08-14 08:29]

[Anonymous] ait has multi-undo operations. great notepad alternative. [2007-08-14 12:04]

[Anonymous] GRI have tried many notepad replacements and this one is near perfect. Two things but me. One is the NL to CRNL conversion already mentioned. The other is that the tab stop seems to be set at 5 spaces instead of 8. Otherwise great! [2007-09-28 14:50]

[Anonymous] BenI totally agree with all comments above. However, we look for a notepad replacement mainly because we look for more functions that notepad does not provide. [2007-11-12 13:02]

[Anonymous] Portable PaulIt's quick, it's tiny, it's portable, it's assembler. This is enough for me to use it. If i need more features than notepad i use something with more features. most txt/ini files i just need to read. If i'm editing the file for any reason i use an editor. I personally hope very little more goes in this tool because it is perfect at what it does.

ps. timberland boots suck, they support hiking paths but not relative paths.

also they can leave a ton of registry entries all over your carpet.

[Anonymous] Ludwig von DrakeCrashes whenever I try to open a file, either through the File menu, or via the Ctrl-O keyboard shortcut. It does this on both of my PCs (XP Pro SP3). [2010-05-28 18:51]

Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
