hensem: MediaCoder Full Edition version 0.5.0-r1 doesn't work. when i run mediacoder.exe, it will open http://127.0.0.1:8109/setup in my web browser [2006-07-29 00:47]
PJ: Yeah the program has gone "idiotware" [2006-08-21 04:52]
Andrew Lee: MediaCoder V0.5.0-r2 creates a "C:\Windows\MediaCoder" folder and writes a bunch of files to it. As such, I will be sticking with V0.3.9 until things improve in a later version. In the mean time, you can always choose to download an older version i.e. V0.3.9 from SourceForge instead of the latest version. [2006-08-22 07:52]
[BOT]Fluffy: I just tried some of the newer releases of this and I must say that they've become total and utter garbage. You can't even launch the program if you're using Opera, it seems. Absolutely terrible. I'll be sticking with v0.3.9 unless someone uses the source code to make a DECENT fork of this. [2006-11-02 12:11]
Perwhis: It's a great program, but a bit tricky to set up. The Xvid-files I produce with v0.3.9 only work when I use mplayer, but if I change the fourcc setting to DX50 (can be done in the program) it works perfectly... at least on my computer and DVD-player. [2006-12-04 07:33]
senseless: Just copy everything from the directory "$_OUTDIR" one level up to the program directory before deleting the "$" directories. Then it will startup smoothly!
But still it doesn't work properly for me though... [2007-03-09 07:16]
Helper: Haven't tried this but on the homepage

they say how to make it portable:
To make MediaCoder a portable application that can be launched from USB storage (or the storage of your media player) on different PCs, follow these steps:
* Download a copy of MediaCoder and install it.
* Start MediaCoder and on the welcome page, choose "Do not show this page on next startup".
* If you don't have Firefox installed, please download Firefox with Google Toolbar and install it.
* Create a folder named "Firefox" in MediaCoder's installation folder. Copy all files and sub-folders in Firefox's installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) to the created folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\MediaCoder\Firefox).
* Copy MediaCoder's installation folder to your USB storage or your media device storage.
And that's all. Now you can take MediaCoder with you anywhere you go. [2007-03-20 04:39]
Arnaud Nime: Hi everyone,
Mediacoder is a great piece of software doing everything in a few clicks.
I've just a problem since version 0.6. When I click on "settings", nothing happens. I can see with "Process explorer" (another great portable tool) that the mediacoder process has a mozilla child, but no visible window. Anybody heard about that ?
(I know I'd better ask that on their forum, but they didn't send me the registration confirmation => I cannot login) [2007-04-08 23:59]

What do you do if you're running portable Firefox? [2007-05-18 20:30]
ingkiller1: You would need to install a non-portable version of Firefox and then copy the files [2007-07-01 15:34]
Kermode: Helper are you joking? "That's it" - people have install a web browser to get the crap running? Hell no, this has become crap ware. Good thing the older versions are available, be they ever so buggy. [2007-09-02 08:52]
Lyndon: I think I have it working using portable firefox.
Try copying all files from \App\firefox to \firefox [2007-09-11 15:54]
Lyndon: Whoops, I meant ...
Try copying all files from [firefox-portable]\App\firefox to [MediaCoder]\firefox [2007-09-11 15:59]
Arithmomaniac: They just added an audio-only version - but I don't know if it's portable. [2008-01-08 07:57]
x: * If you don't have Firefox installed, please download Firefox with Google Toolbar and install it.
WTH do we need Google Shitbar? [2008-01-24 03:19]
pvleeuwen: I don't understand! Is it possible to use the installer of SUPER V2008 Build 30 when you want to use the result on a portable? If not, and that's what I understand, where can I find the installer of SUPER V2007 Build 23? [2008-05-01 06:47]
a: is it me or is the latest version 10x slower at transcoding than older versions. i would like to convert flv videos to mp3 but the process could take months with this latest version (0.6.1.4045) . i have version 0.6.0.3850 and its transcoding speed is a lot faster. what settings have to be change to make the transcoding speed at least bearable again. i guess it's downhill from here :/ [2008-07-27 09:41]
Initrd.gz: I cannot get this to work. Every time I try to convert something it gives me an error... [2008-10-25 09:58]
rb: a,
for just converting flv to mp3, use FormatFactory. I have version 1.65, and it works real fast. [2009-01-08 01:27]
Degster: to extract sound from almost ANY video type to mp3 try this excellent free offer from commercial company http://www.clone2go.com/products/freeaudio.php
They do a video transcoder that's free too [2009-02-20 16:08]
will: instead of using firefox standard i used firefox portable [2009-02-22 06:01]
I'm not telling: It sucks because it needs internet connection to just setup. and it needs Firefox.(its not a bad browser. it just eats too much memory(90000+ w/ one blank tab to be exact.)) [2009-04-04 17:04]
Joe: It includes several proprietary codecs without a license (Nero AAC+, RealMedia, etc.). The author knows this, but doesn't care (see http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=59967 for example).
This is hurting other Open Source projects and the reputation of Open Source software in general.
Furthermore, it's probably illegal to distribute this software due to these copyright violations. [2009-06-03 00:53]
root: It's adware! [2009-07-07 10:39]
S1m0n: please, don't mind me. just argue further.

dedal: this is a very good program; I give it 10/10 for what it can do BUT UNFORTUNATELY it is nagware; for those who want to use MediaCoder and forget about nags about update, splashscreen and visiting sponsors websites (all of that nags can supposedly be disabled but the sad truth is that it is completely impossible...) I strongly recommend progam ClickOff by johanneshuebner [2009-12-31 13:44]
fantom: terrible nagware! [2010-01-09 19:33]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
